Hi all,

My ST184 5S-FE 1992 is overheating while driving but not while idle or for short trips, also the hot air isn't working.

I have a leak somewhere as I'm constantly losing coolant while under pressure.

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

I'm going to change the thermostat in the morning, the car had been sitting untouched for nearly a year so I'm thinking there might be gunk in it

Before you go to great lenghts replacing everything, get a pressure tester and then pressurise the system and that will definatly reveal the source of the leak. :D

Could be headgasket too, coolant loss combined with lots coming out of the overflow would indicate a BHG.

I've had that thought in the back of my mind for a few days now hiro, I'm just hoping its not the case.

I've replaced the radiator cap as the rubber had started to disintegrate and tested the thermo ( working and opens at 80c)

I'll have to get her down to my local mech to get it pressurised as I don't have the equipment.

I'm not wanting to jinx it but with the new radiator cap She hasn't overheated or leaked.

$15 to fix , its not like a celica to be cheap to fix lol

Sadly no, it started at the cap but the head ended up cracking, so she's been sitting in my garage for the last two months until I decide if I want to keep her and do a engine swap.
