hi, I've got a problem with my 91 hiace, 2RZ motor, 2.4L petrol 5 speed manual gearbox.

It will not go into reverse.

i removed the linkage lever housing from the side of the gearbox and found that the center gear selector fork is forward instead of centered like theother selectors above and below were.

its not seized, as i can easily slid it back and forth with a screw driver.

but when i leave the center fork in the central position and bolted the linkage housing back on i could get reverse but only once. if i selected another gear it would not go back in to reverse gear.

any tips??

Could be a bent shift fork, possibly the reverse lockout mechanism. Either way; from what you describe, it sounds like the box may have to come out for inspection.
