What does the LOUD button do?

i know this might sound like a noob question, but what exactly does the "Loud" button do on the stock radio system?

i know it makes the sound louder, like thats pretty obvious :lol:

but when i turn the Loud option off, and turn the volume up, it doesnt sound the same...

so what does pressing this Loud button actually do, other than increase the volume? :huh:

yeah i was thinking it was along those lines :P

i just went to play around with it, and it seems to up the Bass by 5 and Treble by 5 and ups the volume by 2 i think :lol:

anyway, with the new 6CD Mp3 Radio system, they dont have a 'LOUD' button, they have this SRS button, does that do the same thing?

because, when u lower the volume. your ears are less sensitive to the more extreme ends of the audio frequency. as the volume gets louder, treble and bass become more obvious. so for normal or softer listening levels, the 2 ends are boosted so it all sounds like they're at the same level.

SRS is a trademark of SRSLabs.

It's a type of equalizer found in Windows Media Player & some portable MP3 devices, not sure how it would work on a car stereo though i.e. is it pre-configured or user selectable?

EDIT: A little reading found this;

There's a link on that page to a PDF article about how SRS automotive works...
