Prado blowing turbo

Recommended Posts

Love my Prado the best car I've ever owned. Also have a Hilux 1996 ute which goes anywhere. Also a Nissan Navara which I don't want to talk about.

My Prado a GXL 2009 model has just clicked over the 170,000 km. I was coming back from the Gold Coast a week ago when the engine warning light came on, and it lacked power.

Turns out it's done a turbo.

All of my vehicles are serviced at 10,000 intervels,so if it was a lack of service I could say I deserved it.

My question. Is this common,I wouldn't of thought so.

Also do I have a comeback on Toyota,170,000 is not big mileage for a diesel.

Post moved to correct section.

The vehicle is well out of warranty on both kms and timeframe, so you won't have any luck unless you can prove a manufacturing defect.

The 1KD-FTV engine is not the most reliable Toyota diesel engine and many have gone bang well before 170,000km. Do a Google search on the EGR, oil pick up and injector issues.

G'day Trent

Thanks for that,no I didn't think I'd have much hope in claiming from Toyota.

As for the oil pick up and injector issues I'm well aware of this problem and on top of it.

This model of motor going bang well before 170,000 is of a surprise,is this because of the oil pick up and injector issue?

I just can't get my head around 170,000 been big kilometres for a diesel?
