Hey guys,

Just after some info on my ln167 5le Hilux that has a engine tick that will not disappear. Valve clearance and shims are done, injectors done but still has a tick in time with the engine, ticks when idle, when clutch is in and out and never goes away. I've heard 5l engines are known tickers but it's gotta have a solution. Perhaps manifold gasket? Is there a way I can tell if that has a hole in it?

Thanks for your time

Hi Jack, I'm not sure about a solution to the ticking, but some engines are just like that and generally accepted. If your intake manifold had a 'hole' in it, the engine would run very poorly, but if the exhaust manifold is leaky by virtue of a bad gasket than yes, this can attenuate a ticking noise. Maybe you can DIY the exhaust manifold if you're handy, inspect and replace it just to rule it out.

Cheers mate
