2013 SR5 Gearbox Question

Hi all, new here and hopefully someone can help.

 

Just bought a 2013 SR5 and i didnt notice or pick it up at first but there seems to be a weird noise when taking off in 1st gear. At first i thought it was the crap tyres not gripping but had everything changed and its still there. Mechanic says its definitely something in gearbox 1st gear.

 

Can anyone recommend a real good and trustworthy gearbox mechanic out easter south/eastern suburbs way. Someone who wont rip you, off if thats even possible.

I can't recommend anyone to be honest as I've never had to deal with such an issue, but I would say that it may be cheaper just to replace the gearbox with a certified good 2nd hand one from a wrecker.

By the time the mechanic removes the transmission to open, inspect and repair, it will get too expensive and may result in a full overhaul which may be in the thousands.

I'd say, once it's out, replace the whole box.
