Hi, still a little in shock with our much loved Prado. We have water loss overnight and it seems to be in the pistons as it misses for a short while after being started. We pulled over as the temp rose and it did not overheat. We are in Tassie. Advice please.
Would you put a new head on, long motor or a low mileage used one?

i will get the radiator replaced and or tested and definitely the water pump and thermostat.

We love our car, and it is the first amazingly new car we have owned. It is ex police, a Seargents car from the North West Coast of Tassie apparently. We bought at auction with warranty and 89O00 ks. We shed a tear or two over the last couple of days.

Thank you

From what you have described, it appears that the head gasket has blown to let coolant into the piston/s.

Good news is that the engine has not overheated so hopefully the cylinder head has not warped.

Most likely the cylinder head can be machined [if required] and the head gasket replaced plus new cylinder head bolts.

Hope you can find a reputable mechanical shop to do the work.

Thank you Ashley. My mechanic is about to retire and was keen if it was the older 3.0 l motor. Any thoughts on what would cause the blow?  Have a great day.
