Hi. My trusty Camry started popping up the batt symbol on the dash last night. It was flickering on and off unless I was on the freeway doing 100kmh where it would stay off. Once the rpm dropped below 2,000 and the speed to 80kmh, it started flickering on and off again. I noticed my drivers power window didn't operate at one smooth speed as normal and my headlights sometimes dimmed for a second and then back to normal strength whilst driving. I suspect my alternator is failing.

I can't find my meter to check the voltage and a new alternator is fairly expensive, so I'm wondering if there are other ways of deducing that the fault is the battery or the alternator.  Anyone able to supply other methods of deduction?
