but in the article it says the cam change-over is smoother in the lotus, and it stays in its 'fun cam' when u up shift

My thinking is Toyota made the switch over aggressive on their cars so it would feel faster for people driving it. But since Lotus is using their own ECU, they have the fuel cut at 8500 and lift disengage at 5800. So all they need to do is smooth the power curve and you will land in lift.
