Sound from Coilovers

Recommended Posts

Ive got a "clunk" sound coming from the right front.

It doesnt happen all the time but when im turning sometimes there is a clunk.

im thinking maybe it could be the spring just spinning or something....dont know what else it could be..

anyone have any suggestions so i know what to inspect??

i have not touched coilovers in years but back when i had them in my car after installation you should drive in a carpark doing figure 8 patterns full lock to seat the springs in and eliminate clunk noise. but the clunk may be due to something else but you may like to try full lock turns.

check the suspension section, there is a big thread on D2 and G4 coilover noises and what to look for :)

yep sorry my bad....

looks like more ppl are having the same prob

I oiled the top struts but it came back. So I just took out the coilover pulled it apart then put it back toghether and the noise was gone.

mate that could possibly be the affect of sydney roads on ur coils .....

I was having the same problem and it turned out that the spherical bearing in the pillow tops was goooooooone ... because of all the knocks (now mind u i drive 550km per week of which 400km is on the freeway) it had basically pushed all the bearings insulation out from its position thus causing for the strut top to be very loose.

This lead to the spring having free play and so when i would hook it .... it would make a very loud clunk noise .....

Solution ..... new strut tops from Cusco Japan as these are not warrentable items due to the wear and tear nature of a bearing :( :( :( :( :( :(
