Did this over the weekend to see how well the paint colour match is from a spray can.

Things you need:

320 Grit Sandpaper

800 Grit Sandpaper

1 x Plastic Primer can

1 x Acrylic Paint can (Buy it from a paint mixer store)

10mm socket wrench

Optional

Putty/Filler

Clear Coat

Poish/Wax

1. Remove the front lip, this photo shows the holes on the lips where the screws are. There are also two clips at the end of the lips. All the screws are 10mm

2. Clean the lip with a sponge and soapy water then let it dry. Wet Sand the lip with 300 Grit Sand paper

*Optional* if your lip is heavily scratched like mine, you can use a putty or filler to fill up the deep scratches after sanding but i didnt bother.

3. Clean with methylated spirits and let it dry.

4. Find an area which wont be too dusty and lay out newspapers to prevent paint from staining the ground.

Try finding something to hold the lip up like old paint cans.

5. Spray the lip with primer, remember to do LIGHT coats.

Dont spray too close or too much, this is how you get runs in your paint job and it wont look as good.

Allow 10-15 minutes for it to dry then apply a second coat if you like.

6.Sand down the primed lip with 800 grit sandpaper to smoothen it out and remove blemishes/runs.

7. Start applying the coloured coat, just like the primer, do light coats over and over again until you are happy.

This is how mined turned out after 5/6 light coats.

You can still see the scratches but just barely

8. Now let it dry overnight for the paint to cure.

Ok so how you want to finish off your lip is entirely up to you.

You can either just leave it the way it is, sand with 800 grit sandpaper and put on a clear coat or polish and wax.

Leaving the way it is, the paint will be a bit dull and doesnt gloss as much as the rest of the car.

A clear coat from a spray can is just poor, it sprays on very cluggy if you do it lightly so you have to spray it on heavily.

This was the first time i used a clear from a spray can and disliked it.

You can polish and wax the lip to finish it off and that should give it a good gloss. As you can see from mine, its got a clear coat but doesnt gloss.

Here are the finished pictures.

Its always more fun to do a DIY, so hope you guys enjoyed it :D

yeah tom, i did it that arvo and had my lip off when i met up with you guys, it was at home in the garage at the time.

LOL at wy, its easy stuff and doesnt take too long. Longest part is sanding. Spraying the lip you just gotta be patient. yeah they will roll in slowly, i've got osram diadems but they're in the glove box lol

and i notice i uploaded one of the pics wrong. will fix that soon. Im sure you can apply this to pretty much any body part. I'll be getting a spoiler soon so i'll post how that turns out as well.
