ABS failure?

hi everyone,

just wondering what u think about this...

i was doing about 40kmh just entering sydney cbd on george st coming from broadway when i slammed on the brakes and guess what...the front wheels LOCKED!!!

because of this my 2005 sportivo skidded and i almost crashed into the car in front of me

dealership: "we can't fault the abs and we'll just have to keep an eye on it"

your thoughts would be much appreciated....

Better to be locking then NOT!!

Maybe your brakes are seasing up?

hrrmm yer that happend to me on the mt dandy cruise weird shiet sounds so painful lyk its disloged right?

never had a problem with the abs, and i've given it a hell of a use at defensive driving days etc.

take it back to your dealer tell em to plug their machine into the diagnostic plug and see what it says

oh and tell em to not be so lazy

Maybe something to do with the speed.......at 40km.

.....its not exactly a speed where you would need ABS to avoid a colision.

Maybe it did work and you were too focused on the screatching tyres....(ie under panic state of mind).

Try locking up at a greater spead in an quiet street/industrial area......you should feel a shuddering feeling on the steering wheel.

actually i think brad is right the abs wont work unless u are above a certain speed but im not sure what the speed is

When I did my AAMI defence driver course the speeds ranged from 30-50KM/hr and the ABS kicked in every single time.

I think it really depends on how you press the brake pedal. If you soft press the pedal it might not think its an emergency stop so it doesnt kick the ABS in. If you slam on the brakes then the computer will recognise its an emergency stop and activate the ABS. Thats what I think anyway.

mmm but the wheels still shouldnt lock up if u press the brake slightly. very strange maybe there was oil on the road or something, abs wont help u sliding on that

I've never had that prob in my '05 sportivo. After doing my skid driving course few months ago and doing plenty of emergency brakes (at lowish speeds<60km.h) i've realised that the ABS threshold kicks in alot earlier than before.....maybe the computer learns? I reckon few practice in a quite place should tell the story......ABS failure should also have a light on the dash too...my two cents:-)
