  1. Yeah dont want to sound like a ****** or anything, but this made me laugh guys. A fan inside your intake pipe? You guys are aware that the engine by nature sucks in air? it does not need a fan to 'push' air in - this is the "induction" noise you get from an air intake, it is just the vacuum of air going through the filter. And hells no it is not classified as forced induction, it is nothing like recycling exhaust gases and spooling up air pressure or using compressed air to drive a pulley. Too much rice factor here guys, these dodgy contraptions do not do a pinch of shiznet. Dont get sucked in and (not that i am a pro, quite the newb actually) its an idea to get a good understanding of how engines work and forced induction on a technical level before digging into your pocket and forking out for dodgy mods, that way you know what is complete crap and what is the real deal.
  2. It is possible negatron to get a super charger job done for 1k - I have investigated and it is quite possible using something like a reconditioned Soarer S/C. HOWEVER - any other super charger you try and fit into the 1zzfe engine bay will require you to chop your air conditioning - remove it comepletely. The only S/C that fits properly is the TRD 1.8L 1zzfe one. That being said, you dont NEED a new manifold and you dont NEED a piggyback ECU, they are simply required to get usage out of your supercharger. You can also add on an intercooler to get more power. So for a half decent on the cheap install it would cost about 1000 + 1500 (unichip + tune) + 500 (custom manifold) + 600 (intercooler) = 3600 + no more air con. Comparitively a TRD job will cost 5-6k with no loss of air con & tuning So if you want it done properly there is no cheap way, but if you really couldnt give a toss about engine longevity and you live in a temperate climate, etc. if you have a spare grand go for it.
  3. I have seen these wheel around, nice buy, look good. Cant help but think 18s would look even fatter though, but weight starts becoming an issue then and they are already reasonably heavy. I would love to get rid of my 15" pieces of animal faeces in favour of a slick new set of 17" or 18s and low profile tires. Unlucky i dont have 2k to spare at the moment :( Even facelift Toyota alloys look better than my current mags HAHA. And yes, even my wheels would look better with the vehicle lowered, just pick up a set of King Springs, super low. As mentioned, they can be acquired with labour for sub 400.
  4. sportiv, its an estimate mate, relax. 5kw is not all that much, many people probably wouldnt even notice if their cars gained 5kw. Generally it is noticable however, although it does not make a 1 second difference on a quater mile. Kind of like having a car running on watered down ULP and the same car on high quality 98 octane premium. When you are driving the same type of car repeatedly i am thinking you would become more discerning as to the performance of each individual vehicle, that is the point i was making, the statistical difference was just a personal estimate by someone who has driven alot of different cars on a regular basis. It is quite possible for example, to have a stock, same model stivo that pumps out 107kw atw and one that does 112kw atw (there is probably a case of this on these forums). There are so many variables that i think in practice it would be very hard to have every car of the same model get the exact same dyno result as well as be perfectly equal on the road.
  5. I just recently finished a DIY with my AEM CAI in 02 conquest It actually turned out to be quite a turd of a job...dont know if everyone else had the same thing, by with my car, where the pod is supposed to sit (behind the front bumper infront of the left front wheel) was a water draining tank for the standing air box that was bolted to the chassis. So it ended up being i had to dissmantle the whole front bumper to take this water tank out, which was ok, i didnt break anything and got to clean places i had never seen before, haha. Also had issues finding an allen key to fit the screws provided to fit the MAF sensor into the mount, so instead i gained some skills with needle nosed plyers...HAHA. AND the pod did not fit on the end of the pipe AT ALL. They were both like, the exact same size, so i had to cut the rubber rim of the pod and use some hefty macho to fit the turd on, then just used the metal ring clamp to clamp the shiznet out of it. This all took about 5 hours by the way... After all this was done...the plastic "insert" that you were referring to Azza...i did a little mod job on that and drilled/chisseled/sanded out two "slits" that lead directly to the pod, giving much more "cold air" than the air sucked from the front skirt, without consuming small creatures. I condsidered discarding this insert entirely but it looks like garbage and the pod would have taken a beating. Looks a bit dodgy, but works as intended, i am happy with the finished result. Also from what my extensive research indicates, a shorter intake pipe gives better throttle response and a longer intake pipe gives more torque.
  6. While on the subject of comparing stock cars... I cant speak for the stivo but my bro works for a rental car company and gets to drive around brand new cars of all variety, including corollas (not stivos however) and he can vouch for variability in performance of new cars. He reckons that there is upto ~5kw discrepancies just between vehicles coming straight off the cargo ships. Strangely he is also convinced that my 02 corolla (when it was stock) goes better than any new face lifted corolla he has driven. Dont know if anyone else has been in a similar position, but perhaps factory variations make it difficult to compare stock cars even if a minor intake mod is involved, because as stated, with NA cars it is hard to get big gains out of basic mods.
  7. I would agree that literally the stivo is not a sports car, however in general features and drivability i would say under practical application, it is more a sports car than a leisure hatch or something of the sort. What other 120kw+ cars do you have to scream around in at 6k revs & over to get the output? The engine alone i think is enough to categorise it as sports, because as a road car engine, many car reviewers agree that the 2zzge isnt suitable :P Add in the interior, body kit, etc and we have quite the unique blend of vehicle with plenty of charisma.
  8. ahhh, so how much is a flight to Italy? I think its time to ditch the rolla... :P
  9. Dang, that is pretty sw@nk (stupid language filter - it made it look like i said something else...haha) man. May i ask however do you (or anyone else for that matter) get your tires touching against the bodywork or wheel arches with such low springs? I was looking at new shockies and springs however still uncertain about possible issues that may arise.
  10. While on the topic of touch up paint, anyone find that the supplied touch up paint is garbage? And you are probably better off leaving any minor paint chips or scratches if it wasnt for the likely development of body rust. And my rolla is white so colour isnt the issue, just makes paint blemishes stick out like dogs balls, unless you are handy with the old cut and polish...
  11. nice, nice, bit of a turd to clean though, hehe. How much do those wheels weight exactly each, do you know? Will definitely be a pimp mobile when lowered B)
  12. XR6T Ute - now that is a man's car. Very nice ride man! Good to see someone willing to put a new (relatively expensive) vehicle straight on the modifying chop block. :P Not that i am not an avid corolla supporter fellas, but just thought i would devulge some info about the XR6T Ute and why i hold it in high regard: *Can pickup a baseline XR6T Ute with not extras for ~35k, not too much more than the 27k of a stivo, although a little far off the ~20k for a new 1zzfe. The Utes are some 5k cheaper than the XR6T sedans, however they do weigh about 150kg less strangely. *Goes hard standard. *Highly modifiable as stated by AzzaMataz, easy to further increase (by large degrees) the output. *Great fun to drive, does awesome burnouts with ease (who doesnt like to bake it? And yes, i am one of those hoons... Well admittedly i dont if it is my car, unless they are old tires on their last leg...) *Of course the dissadvantages include: excessive fuel cost, too much output results in the need to replace highly stressed parts more often than the norm. However seeing as this is all hypothetical for me, if i had the money it wouldnt be a problem, hehe. One day... Also if you havnt run away as a result of the poor reception of your Ford Azzamataz, i would love to see some pics with those mods.
