  1. I could be in depending on time/date and place, the city is only 1 1/2 hours from my place, but western Sydney is a little more of a trek :( When are you looking to organise this cruise Grey-Rolla?
  2. I am at 57k now, still running on the first set (Dunlop Sports) but ah... They are kinda border-lining on legality <_< With some more conservative driving (less burnouts) i think i could have gotten 60k out of them quite easily.
  3. Was the other party pretty cool about it? ← I was just thinking the other day...I have never damaged any vehicle i have driven, not even a scratch, although i have had many a close call (normally a result of someone elses incompetence) - but. If i was sitting at some traffic lights or something and some clown smashed me in the rear... i KNOW i would get out and go for the biff (only if it were a guy of course). The farker broke my car! I would definitely not be cool about it
  4. Yeah if i had the cash...stuff all this turbo F/I crap, hardcore N/A V8 all the way, that is the shiznet. Accelerator = burnout! Torque in huge abundance and modding such motors would be awesome, perfect for on the road. ← hardcore NA V8, checked fuel prices lately? :D love the sound of the rough idling with aggressive cams tho ← Note the previous statement in bold...hehe
  5. Yeah if i had the cash...stuff all this turbo F/I crap, hardcore N/A V8 all the way, that is the shiznet. Accelerator = burnout! Torque in huge abundance and modding such motors would be awesome, perfect for on the road.
  6. Yeah i would agree to an extent there...however it is no different with the 1zz as soon as you put passengers in, to get the car moving you have to floor it pretty much everywhere and keep the revs high to have decent drivability. The only real difference is that the torque comes sooner rather than later, which is good for everyday driving. And Azza i wouldnt be worried about being judged as a hoon, people hear my exhaust and the judgement is already upon me, so i cant dissappoint them by not slamming the rolla :P Btw, has anyone ever tried doing a handbrake turn in their stivo and then coming out of it in lift? I bet that would be pretty awesome...The things you think about at 2am...
  7. tossing (what else do you use a sock for? :P )
  8. From what i have read...(i dont have any documents or articles for you, sorry) backfiring can be considered an efficiency... Basically it is when you have a pretty free flowing exhaust sytem, (depending how i use gears and the throttle i can make my 1zz back fire like a machine - even normal driving backfires all the time) the unburnt fuel gases from combustion are released straight out of your exhaust...alternatively a more restrictive exhaust (eg. stock) will just choke on these pockets of ethanol gas and ram them back into the engine as back pressure. But yeah its nothing to worry about mate, better out than in, dont worry, your exhaust is not making the car use more fuel or anything, you are just making a bigger contribution to the hole in the ozone layer. :P So yeah, in conclusion, you are not a man unless your car backfires.
  9. Damn dude, that is some top shelf bargaining skills you have there - milk those bast4ards dry! And seeing as i dont own a sportivo and am still somewhat of a newb i will leave the break in tips to some seasoned lift veterins...
  10. Haha if gains were measured in noise my corolla would be quite quick indeed. I really need to find a way to get some sound clips...4th gear on the dyno and my 1zz sounded like an aircraft taking off! I have to disagree with the whole "dyno sheet and labelling required otherwise your mods mean nothing" attitude though... In my experience however, my 2.5" mandrel bent pipe and somewhat straight through cannon as well as fat extractors and high flow cat gave me a decent increase in low down power, at a small loss in top end (maybe a few kw, and no i dont have dyno sheets to prove, just have to trust me) however combined with CAI gave a 35% torque increase almost across the range (do have dyno sheets but cant get them up for show) This of course however is a 1zz, not a sportivo, i have no idea how such a free flowing system would benefit lift.
  11. hmmm yes i definitely agree, the costs associated with such a conversion would be wasted, so hmmm, lets look at this from a different perspective... Rather than trying to get the horses out of a 1zz to that of a 2zz, what can be done to get the low and mid torque out of a 2zz to be equal (preferably greater) than a 1zz...? Someone in Australia should have surely by now done some cam work to a stivo - it would really pay off in that motor. Anyone seen that clip a while back of that Celica in the US that got some 150kw atw with a Power FC and cam work (as well as the other standard mods) - it revved to some 9k and did a quater in 13.8 or something. Come on Northy, i know you are keen, only 2-3k worth of work and you can break the 14 sec barrier - do it, come on, do it, you are already getting the Apexera NOW WORK THOSE CAMS!
  12. Nothing a skilled welder cant fix :P But the document posted by blackzze (also supposedly directly from toyota <_< ) and the ones i have read (similar development documents , supposedly straight from toyota) say completely different things Maybe it cant be done unless its a full chop shop job...but that is not the attitude that gets us anywhere - some bending of the 2zz head, a heavy duty replacement of the 1zz stroke, forged pistons that can run 11.5:1 compression...and we are almost looking good to go from what you guys have indicated.
  13. dog food (mmm breakfast :P )
  14. ok...our source documents differ greatly in their definitions of facts But yeah you kind of didnt take note of: I PERSONALLY HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING ANY SUCH MODIFICATION MY CAR. I dont want to turn my car into a sportivo, i respect both cars, i was just opting for something a little different to encourage some healthy debate :)
  15. Ok guys, here is a new one for you... Is there anyone who thinks it is possible to convert a 1zzfe engine into a LIFT capable beast through internal work? From what i have read, there is not all that much difference between the 1zz and 2zz engines...they are both built from the same block and have alot of the same parts, until we reach things like the the cams, intake manifold, injectors - however with proper modification/replacement of these parts that differ these two engines, as well as a proper ECU replacement to accommodate the VVtLi...can a 1zz LIFT ? :P I personally think it is possible and if one was adventerous, it would be a very interesting path to explore, but there are also probably many of you out there who think i am a complete twit (probably stivo drivers). So to cover myself i am going to be clear that - I PERSONALLY HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING ANY SUCH MODIFICATION MY CAR. I just thought it was an interesting prospect that could possibly have some awesome/disastrous results. Also if anyone has a theory on how they think it can be done, please include costs. Good test to see how well you stivo people know the ins and outs of your engine. So dont be shy people, let the abuse fly :D
  16. Perhaps the new forum mod will be able to fix all this whining about the elusive search button... Really guys it is not that much of a big deal if someone posts something that has already been covered. If no one replied then maybe the postee would would get the message... Perhaps a design modification making the SEARCH option a little more prominent and the vast capabilities of its functionality better known?
  17. Haha, yeah can just picture some slack jawed hick getting all riled because they fixed his piece of crap ute... "Mate, wtf you dun to mi ute? Looks like a bloody circus now, **** ridiculous, i want mi rodeo back ya b4st4rds!" <says this while chewing on a piece of grass with a stubby in one hand, a flano shirt and pluggers>
  18. Yeah I actually traded the gsxr for a VFR 800 a few months ago. The GSXR was INSANE and to be honest no standard car would be able to keep up in a straight line. I think you would need 600hp at the back wheel of a Supra or GTR to keep up. Even on the VFR, modded WRX's are funny when they try and race me. Half throttle and your way ahead:) Again sorry for my posts of Friday, I hope you all can forget about it and let me enjoy posting here with no ill feeling:) ← Yeah i have been on the back of some bikes a few years ago...any half decent bike will kill pretty much any road car. I mean, (in the case of the GSXR) how can any car challenge something that weighs 170kg dry and puts out 150kw? Thats like having a 1000kw Corolla :o Its funny though the amount of people who think bikes are slow and their fully sik modified Rex will kill it, they are somewhat surprised when they get nailed and realise if they really wanted performance they only need half the amount of cash they payed for their WRX, balls of steel and some riding skill
  19. well my car uses 2.5" piping, kinda wishing i got 2 1/4 now actually, i think the engine needs a little more backpressure to get more power and from what i know on this forum, 2.25 seems to give best results... And yeah, i am with Azza in thinking that CES was 2.25...hmmm
  20. Damn man, that sucks. Any engineers on hand? But in all seriousness mate, it is the general rule (back me up on this one guys) that a shorter intake pipe will give faster throttle response and more peak power, whereas a longer intake pipe is likely to give you torque boosts, notably in the midrange. When tweaking with the CAI's be careful when evaluating the performance of each prototype you come up with. Many people have trouble determining the difference between what more torque feels like and what more power feels like - i know i do :P
  21. I drive a SPORTIVO Azza... show me a N/A 1ZZ-FE with 119.8kW at the fronts!!! :P ← <takes a deep breath> 119.8kw N/A - i am up for the challenge...anyone got 10k spare for the Mintos charity fund? And Gumball...it took a couple of servings, but you came around mate, good to see :) Kudos to being a GSX-R 1k rider, those things are fricking intense man, 9.8 1/4 stock - any sub 50k roadcar would seem like a shopping trolley if you rode that thing too much. But yes, the reason why a modded 1zz is able to match a stivo in many circumstances on the strip is because of the torque. I wasnt lying when i said it is the highest torque N/A 1.8L motor and as many people here know, torque is really what gets the car running in a drag. In the case of Northy's Ascent, not even lift can compensate for the superior pull of the 1zz, even with the 6.2k rev limiter. In terms of performance mods, my 1zz for example has full exhaust and air intake and pulls 235nm (171 standard) so with an easy 1k worth of bolt on mods you can make the ascent a bit more of an "interactive" drive and not just an A to B car. Also as 1ZZ-FE (Carlos) said, so much of it is about the driver, sometimes it is fun to be the performance underdog yet come out on top because you know how to maneuver your ride - everyday i learn how to get more out of driving my corolla and its good fun :) Still yet to square off against a stivo damnit...I am going to have to come to a club meet in Sydney and see how I stack up, hehe. And yeah Tofuboi, personally i still reside with my original opinion - if you are willing to cough up for a Levin, i would find some way "around" the license issue and opt for a stivo, better resale, etc. But that is just me...whatever works for you dude, a corolla is a corolla :D
