  1. I think if I were in the market for a small car rocket i'd be holding my breath to see if HSV will import the Corsa turbo. I know they are looking at them. Think Holden Barina with a 147kW 1.8 turbo in it with all the usual add ons (bigger rims, kit, handling). Currently the only Corsa onsale in Aus is the Holden Tiagra (which wouldnt be a bad car if it had some balls). If HSV do this they will own the small car performance market.
  2. I agree with Toyota's lineup sucking at the moment. No Supra, MR2 or Celica in the lineup. But you can't argue with their sales figures. I think some manufacturer needs to bring out another targa top like the last crx or the NX coupes. No one does targa tops no more!
  3. I vote to keep the space savers all round when its complete :) But seriously looks sweet hey. When it does come to rims I reckon doing a larger one on rear and tuck it. Perhaps 18s on front and 20s on back would look crazy!
  4. Heres some free advise for Mitsubishi Aust. Bring back the Lancer GSR for fark sake! Its Easy - Make a EVO without all the high tech gadgets. Just make it AWD and turbo. Im sure if you take away the technology you will be left with a realatively inexpensive but exciting drive. Do this, price it at 35 - 37K and you'll be back to the glory days of the mid 90's. Do this and my next car will be a mitsubishi.
  5. I think if toyota released a turbo yaris and put a 30K price tag on it they would be laughed at. If you ask me this is just a girls car thats tried to have a sex change. Should be $25990 tops! Do you think theyll sell many if toyota's new corolla sportivo is $29990 again?
  6. I seen the top gear review on the Astra and they said it had too much power. They said the golf GTI was still their pick over it. But Im a big fan of the astra coupe. If only they didnt make falcadores! I also seen another review on top gear. In the UK there is a model of Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra that are both faster than the Mazda 6 MPS. Both are NA V6 FWD's.
  7. crap crap crap. Did I mention this car is crap? Well not the car, the pricing. Ive already done a post about this one how mitsubishi has totally missed its pricing on this. $29990 + onroads is way too much for such a small package. Its competitors are better priced - Polo GTI @ $26990 and Swift sport @ $23990. Mitsubishi have priced this close to the clio sport cup when the clio is still miles ahead, especially when the next model will pack 152kW.
  8. The jetta may be a sedan but its good for 0-100 in 7.2 due to its powerplant being the same as the GTI. U should check into the when the Passat R36 (3.6L big brother of R32 with 225kW) or the 132kW Polo GTI Cup will be available. http://www.carpoint.com.au/car-review/2078300.aspx Ive also heard of a rumour of VW bringing out a limited edition GTI with power up closer to the 200kW mark. As far as hot hatches tho im waiting for the perfect blend. I have my eye on the Astra SRI turbo. I love the low slung roof line but hate the holden badge. HSV are bringing one out soon. Waiting for the Tiida SSS that Nissan Aust are trying to get and ofcourse what toyota will do with the new corolla.
  9. I say re release a toyota sprinter. Im thinking 2 door RWD looking similar to the sedan with a lower cut roof and 2zz powerplant (and a wicked suspension setup).
  10. The GTA is nice but I'd never part with 60K for one. Imagine a Golf GTI or MPS3 with 20K worth of mods? Better yet 20K in your bank account. My recommendations - Test drive a Renault Sport Megane 225 F1 and Jetta FSI turbo. Just thought I'd throw two options in there no one else has mentioned. And also they are both sexy cars.
  11. Hey azza, Im in the new place now. Moved in on the weekend so ull see the rolla around a bit now. Still trying to find some tennants for my old house. Not looking forward to two mortgages with no rental income. Should rent out pretty soon tho. As for the astra, I think ill wait for the HSV coz its only gunna be 3 grand more. But i really dont want to own a bogan holden even if it is the coolest looking hatch. Toyota need to bring out a 3 door sportivo or Nissan a 3 door SSS Tiida. Who ever does it first will get at least one sale from me. Ive also heard HSV are looking at new corsa turbo as a smaller turbo hatch to take on polo GTI, swift sport and ralliart colt. Will eat them alive if they bring it out.
  12. *crosses fingers and hopes for a forced induction coupe version with a low cut roof line* Im in love with the new turbo astra coupe but I dont wanna buy a holden. C'mon Toyota throw us a friggin bone here!
  13. I use to have a R33 S1. Awesome cars man they take a pounding. Didnt do too many mods on mine though. Prefered reliability and back then FMIC's werent coming out of china and were too damn expensive. I use to be a frequent visiter to the "SAU" website. Good fellas there. Lots of knowledge. U'll probly find the same info there but you can get em going awesome with only a few bucks. I'd recommend FMIC, CAI, Exhaust, adjustable cam timing for outlet (has been known to increase power by more than 20kW by itself) and boost it up to 0.7 bar (10 psi). Standard turbo and ECU will self adjust up to a bit below 1 bar so 0.7 is pretty safe. Have you figured out yet why the boost guage goes up to "+7" yet it only hits half way? If not its because its not psi but +7 signifies 1 bar so it is reading correct.
  14. Electric motors are the way once they perfect them. torque is at max no matter what revs u'r at. If you like this one check out the venturi fetish, a little overpriced but it was the first electric super car. http://www.venturi.fr/us/fetish/specs/specs.php3 This one aint too bad either - constant all wheel drive, 32000 rpm and top speed of approx 65.
  15. The Polo GTI is way much more than that I think. My mate paid over $30,000 for his new. http://www.volkswagen.com.au/pdf/price_Lis...%20-%20Polo.pdf 26990 + onroads. If Suzuki sport is 23990 + onroads this makes it 3 grand difference on the base price anyway.
  16. Looks ok but I'd rather put another 3 grand with it and go the 110kW Turbo VW Polo GTI. I must admit I'm a big fan of the new swift but was hoping for a forced induction GTI 3-door priced closer to the 20K mark as was said in alot of gossip columns months ago.
  17. I am in the market for a pocket rocket in about 12 months. Clio is definitely gunna be a consideration. New sport cup coming out has 151kW and increased torue. cuts 0-100 to 6.8. Im waiting for the launch to test drive. Other ones im waiting for is the VW Polo GTI Cup which has finally boosted more power out of the old 110kW 1.8 turbo used in audis and the Gen IV Golf GTI. Its up to 132kW so thatll be a little beast. Waiting to see if VW bring it out here. Also waiting for next gen corolla sportivo, chrysler SRT4 (224kW FWD!), Tiida SSS Which Nissan are trying to confirm. All comes down to price and whats available in 12mths time.
  18. actually i seen a 700+ bhp stivo on "fifth gear" (foxtel). They were trying to build a 200mph car on a budget. They chose a lotus and whacked some big turbos on it. But another guy showed up with his rolla that does 200! I'll try to find the story. I correct myself its got GT4 running gear including AWD http://www.fensport.co.uk/fensportcarsmain.htm Scroll to bottom - and its only 650hp. But still, a 200.4mph corolla is impressive!
  19. happy birthday dewd... dont worry about it - my birthday is next tuesday. Which with the time difference is actually when 9/11 happened :(

  21. I actually dont mind it. Imagining it with a drop job and rimmed looks ok. Some one photo shop! I'll be waiting to see what powerplant the sportivo or TRD version has tho. *crosses fingers and wishes for forced induction*
  22. I think the market in Australia is heavily influenced by hot hatches. People like myself that played gran tourismo on Playstation when I was a teenager using cars like GTR's, Escudos and 3000GT's. We are now in our 20's, in decent jobs and got some money behind us, and because of petrol prices are look at small turbo charged cars. Hence the car companies call us "The Gran Tourismo" generation of buyer. Ok base model Focus - 20K, XR5 - 35K Corolla Ascent - 19K, Stivo - 30K Mazda 3 - 22K, SP23 - 30K, MPS - 40K Impreza - 24K, WRX - 40K Now... Colt - 16K, Ralliart Colt - 30K Lancer 20K, Lancer EVO 62K Do you see how these are just over priced and only true enthusiasts will buy? Bad move Mitsubishi. If Nissan bring out the Tiida sport concept it will boost sales for the base Tiida. Either that or bring back the pulsar badge!
  23. EVO's are great cars. Im not doubting that for a sec. They have a model with 400bhp that keeps up with a lambo around a race track (as seen in top gear). I just think this colt was a good idea - it got me interested coz I thought "small car, turbo, probly be low to mid 20s" but turns out its 30 grand! Way over priced for a 1.5 small car with only 113 Kw. Its the same price as a brand new stivo. Suzuki Swift is also 15-16 grand for the base model. I bet the GTI wont be 30K! I'd keep 3 grand in my pocket and buy the german made and worth over 30 grand Polo GTI for 26990 any day of the week. Atleast it doesnt look like a retarted honda jazz.
  24. Ok first of all check out this link: http://www.ralliart.com.au/RalliartVehicles/ColtTurbo.aspx Looks pretty good right? I mean the way to boost sales of a slow selling model is to bring out a more desirable spec and hook people in who will pay less for the basic model (eg: what Mazda does with the SP23/MPS). But will anyone actually buy this thing? If your answer is yes then look at the price tag. $29990 + onroad! Now VW has bought back a revival of turbo charged hatches. With its Gen V Golf GTI it spawned such competitors as the Focus SR5 and Mazda MPS (with hopefully a Tiida sport and turbo next gen corolla to come). All wanting their piece of the Gran Tourismo Generation. All priced less than the market leader VW. VW then release another - The Polo GTI at $26990, and mitsubishi are dumb enough to price their's $3000 more? And this is not considering the imminent launch of the Suzuki GTI (expect around $20,000 and the sport version of the Ford Fiesta (more than likely mid 20s). Honestly who is running this company? Now all said and done the EVO is a brilliant car for those who can afford it. The technology is brilliant but at the end of the day its just a way overpriced WRX. Add this to the fact they rebadged an 8 year old Galant and called it the new 380 which didnt even sell 1000 units in the first 7 months of this year if you minus fleet sales. Now the outlander isnt a bad looking car and competitively priced. Im also a fan of the new Lancer wagon. If I was in the market for a wagon it'd win me over a Astra or Corolla wagon. But you cant bank on survival on the back of a compact 4WD and a 4 cyl wagon. I am appauled Mr Mitsubishi. Get some people with a clue in charge of Mitsubishi Australia and you might be in with a fighting chance. If not, say hello to Daihatsu, MG and Daewoo on the way out. /end rant
