  1. I know this sounds noob... but how come I can't attach images to my posts anymore?
  2. I bought a 1997 Honda Civic GLi about 3 months ago which was unregistered... and kinda damaged panel wise. There's dents here and there which I'm rectifying with some bondo and paint right now... and obviously springing some small oil leaks here and there (257,000KM car... it's expected). Anyway, I want to get a blue slip for it and register it for the road but there's just one slight issue... there's a dent in the A-pillar on the drivers side. The dent is only cosmetic... it's 15cm long and about 1cm deep... so only the skin portion of the pillar is damaged, the structure itself is still straight as the glass is not cracked and that I can open and close the drivers door normally. I can't get my hands on any information about panel damage, but I'm wondering if it's passable or not? I really don't want to spend $1000 fixing that dent for a car that my brother is going to use to get to school and back.
  3. Yes... I've done it to my ZZE. :) Though mine is the TomTom follow me system introduced with the ZRE.
  4. Hey Guys, I have a project car on my hands at the moment. It's a 1997 Honda Civic GLi that's done 257,000KMs. I got it for a few hundred since it has an electrical issue and won't start (faulty ignition barrel). Anyway, there's a dent on the A-pillar... about an inch deep and 15cm long. There's bits of plaster (if you call it that), patched on the bonnet and two front fenders as well. Missing two doors on the drivers side cause the old owner took them for his other good civic. So basically I need two doors (won't find the same colour unfortunately), so how much will it cost me approximately to respray those two doors? Say I wanted to respray the whole car... how much would that cost? I'm trying to work out if I should just buy a nice working Civic hatch of the same era for $3100 or get this sedan running again? Any opinion would be cool.
  5. Not to worry anymore, I've installed the head unit and everything now. :)
  6. forgot to add... this new head unit can also connect to the speed sensor for gps speed data, any new cabling needed there?
  7. I'm going for a trip down to bunnings warehouse tomorrow... so what tools do i need to do this properly? I have a set of hex driver bits, there's a 10mm head in there but it's non magnetized... so I'm gonna somehow source out a magnetized one (better safe than sorry later on). The hex bit I'm looking for is 10mm right...? As for screws, seeing as I'm re-using those from my current head unit, will I need any special screws to mount the "ears" onto the new head unit? On the side of my replacement head unit it says M5x8mm... I think this is referring to the screw sizes? Thanks.
  8. Okay, awesome. But doesn't the center trim with the heater controls etc. have to be removed anyway to access the top bit with the air vents and stuff? Regardless, I am replacing the center trim that holds the ashtray and surround for the heater controls since some ***** has broken the lid to that storage box above the ashtray. :( As for mounting the new unit in, it's a genuine Toyota unit... the "Follow me - navigation" unit, so I was gonna ask, in terms of screws, do I just reuse the screws from my current stock head unit?
  9. Find where the leak is coming from (which you have already done), then use some sillicone to seal it. You might actually have a broken rubber boot seal or something, so you might want to check that out. This is the first time I've ever heard of water leaking in a Corolla... it's more alas a Holden Commodore thing LOL.
  10. Yeah, like the others said, the older Corollas aren't as economical as the newer ones. I know this first hand because I used to drive a 1998 1.6L AE101R CSi Corolla and that averaged around 11L/100KMs in the city, my 2003 1.8L ZZE122R Corolla now averages 9 to 9.5L on a city cycle... which is wonderful. :)
  11. i think what you need are "ears" for your head unit. Just ask for Toyota ears and they should have something for you. Even the Toyota follow me navigation comes with ears to fill those gaps... seeing as the unit is a re-branded eclipse one.
  12. Thanks mate. That's what I was looking for! Anyway, I have a question. For the air conditioning vents shroud, is that meant to come off first before removing the head unit screws? Basically I've got the center bit with the A/C controls off. Last time I saw a car audio store remove a head unit from a zze corolla, they yanked the shroud off first before pulling the HU out. So I'm not sure what I should be doing first...?
  13. I remember a long while back when I first joined TOCAU, someone posted a bunch of instructions and pictures on how to remove the head unit from a zze corolla. if i remember correctly, the pictures were of a headunit removal/installation in a sportivo corolla. i'm looking for this thread... where the hell is it? alternatively, if someone could tell me how to remove the damn thing that would be great! i have the plastic trims all off now and i'm faced with the bare factory head unit and and the metal cage holding it in...
  14. Problem solved. Went to the wreckers and asked for the OEM harnesses and got them for free. :)
  15. i should also add that this is the older version with the silver 3.5" tomtom unit, not the newer 4.3" tomtom currently on offer at toyota.
  16. I managed to buy a Toyota audio system off eBay for a decent price. It is the version with the TomTom GPS in it, the unit specific name is the Toyota TomTom "Follow Me" navigation system. Well the reason I got it cheap is because the SD card maps are corrupted according to the seller so it doesn't load the maps properly. But that's not my main issue as I actually wanted the unit for bluetooth and MP3 playback... and of course aesthetic features. How do I mount this unit in my car? I know I'll have to take the dash out and remove the factory audio in there now (done that before so I know where I'm at LOL). I've been provided with mounting brackets and screws... is there anything else I need? Do I need any special fascia ears or alike? And in regards to the maps issue, do I contact TomTom, Toyota or Fujitsu Ten/Eclipse (The manufacturer)? Thanks.
  17. i found some wiring on ebay. if i'm correct, is it called a reverse harness? i presume the american toyota versions use the same connector yes?
  18. On the Toyota audio systems... primarily those made by Fujitsu, which one is the power (12V and ACC) and ground pin? is there a wiring diagram anywhere out there? Reason I need to know this is that I have some Fujitsu Ten double din units that my friend handed in for testing to see if they work or not before he sends them off on an ebay sale. Most are from the zze corolla (2001-2007) and also from the camry of that time period as well. thanks.
  19. My current spare wheel is a 14" steel wheel that came with the base model Ascent Corolla. So the spare alloy won't fit that tyre since it's 15" (obviously). I just plan to keep a spare alloy maybe somewhere at the bottom of the shed or something just in case doomsday comes.
  20. Does anyone here buy a spare alloy wheel when buying a new set of alloy wheels from the tyre store? What I'm saying is buy 4 for the car, and buy a 5th one as a spare? The store asked me if I wanted a 5th one yesterday when I installed new wheels. I'm guessing this is in case you screw up and jam it into a kerb or alike?
  21. They would probably go less than $100. If i was you i would keep them as a spare set. I was thinking that too LOL. Or i'd pop them onto my project Civic or alike.
  22. I have a set of original 14" steel wheels (ones in my user picture) which also come with Falken Ziex tyres (~60% tread left) and also the original 14" hubcaps from the 2003 Corolla. Does anyone know how much I should price these wheels and hubcaps? thinking of either listing them on eBay, gumtree or maybe even here on the forum. I want them gone but really unsure how much I should price them. My uncle told me I'd be lucky to get $10 for the set O.o If that's the case I might as well use them as counter weights for the garden hoses or something LOL.
