  1. The Apexi AFC2 will help to even out your Air/Fuel ratio's. By doing this you can gain more power the same as Unichip, emanage etc. The results of Unichip tuning has generally shown a peak increase in the 5-10% range but a larger gain in the 3000-6000rpm range making the 2zz far more responsive (punchier you could say) in that rev range. You just have to be careful not to tune it too close to the tolerances of the engine whereby you start to experience engine knock. A good tuner will take it back a little from this where as some of the more shady characters do not just so as to be able to show you a bigger increase than the other guys give. A good tune though should increase the reliability of the car.
  2. I almost put you straight into 3rd in the 1st post but I thought it would be more polite to let you decide yourself :D :D I'm happy you can make it. Need that 1zz with the vocal lift to keep the RX8 honest. And guys if you don't believe me you should of seen how quickly he kept that 1zz going on the last drive (Arthurs Seat) 1. Ilivfor6 2. 3. I agree. At this point your best bang for the buck is definatly handling. To get noticeable acceleration/speed increases from this point is going to require a much bigger chunk of money where with the suspension you can get an amazing improvement for not that much $$$$$
  4. Hi Guys Peekay & myself are heading off on a drive Sunday morning 20th Feb. We spoke about it at the meet at E-gene's on Sunday. We are going up past the Black Spur to a very deserted stretch of road that twists and turns more than the great Ocean Road with a speeb limit of 100. Guys this would be one of the best roads you can drive in VIC and as I said it's pretty deserted with very few people ever using it. The best part is with the way it twists & turns it is actually difficult over a lot of it to go much over the speed limit. The Road to get there is a lot of fun and the road coming back is even more fun. On the way back we will stop at a little place Peekay and I know that serves great food for a bite to eat & a chat. There will be 2 meet up points, the first at my place in Bundoora just off the Western Ring Road for all those coming from the west and from there onto the 2nd meeting point at Nunawading Toyota on Whitehorse Road just before Springvale Road for those who live in the eastern Suburbs. We will leave my place at 9.15 sharp to head to and meet with the others at Nunawading Toyota (via the Lower plenty gorge which is pretty fun and only adds an extra 5 minutes to the drive) at 10.00am. We will be leaving there at 10.15am sharp. After the drive anyone who wishes to have some dinner at my place and watch a movie there on the big screen is welcome, get to know each other & see if we can turn the Melbourne side of ATOC into a real club! If you wish to meet at my place at 9.00am PM me and I will give you the address and a map to get there. Please only add your name to the list if you are pretty certain you are coming and not just hoping. Just copy this list and add your name to it. 1. Ilivfor6 2. Peekay34 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 5. Yep that would be me, the fat guy in the blue rx8 entering a street of Wellington at speed... Sideways :D (I am joking of course about the fat guy part anyway) I have actually seen a few Sportivo's going down Wellington. Don't normally get a look at the drivers as I am too busy hunting for the next gap to floor it and shoot through.
  6. Reports I have heard from Europe & the states is that the 2zzge does burn a little oil. Some guys in the states with the Celica have been told they should check the oil each month or so for this reason. I have also heard from hard core tuners in states that this particular engine is very dependent on being run in not too softly. That if this engine is not run in hard enough the rings dont seal 100% and therefore oil consumption occurs. That is not to say you cain it new but do not baby it either. The guys in the states that use this engine for racing seem to favour the method of breaking the engine in with some full acceleration spurts up to just before lift in lower gears for the first 20km so as allow everything to bed in properly. If you see excessive oil consumption your first stop should be Toyota!
  7. Also from my experience a lot less noise. If I hit the noise pedal hard not only did it make the CAI scream but also the wife :D :D
  8. Yeah still remember that day. I was in complete at how fast he was changing gears. Clutch in, gear change & clutch out faster than I could blink. Any slower than that and flat shifting is not any quicker than normal (As he said). Also is not good for the clutch for more than a couple changes. Now with the TOMS flywheel, TRD clutch, ITG Filtered TRD CAI, Hondata gasket, Throttle Body Mod, CES Exhaust & Unichip, Lightweight racing alloys + the TRD extractors that were already on in the original 0-100 test... Can anyone say low 6's. Before I traded the Sportivo for the RX8 the only thing I had left to get was the CES exhaust. If only I could have got him to run it again with all this stuff. Would have opened some eyes
  9. Damm that thing must be great to drive now. I can just imagine the smile on your face :D
  10. I am so glad to hear this. My fingers are certainly crossed it is a universal fix for all those with the gear problem. It shall be a good christmas if this is the case. Some good news for a change :) :) :)
  11. Yeah baby..... Sounds so sweet :D :D :D Peekay will be riding with me.
  12. Welcome mate, but I have to ask did you actually read the threads on the issues and understand them. To put you straight my gearbox was not good from new. While breaking the car in for the 1st couple 1000km's (which I never went over 4500revs) I had sticking gear changes and crunching. That's not pushing the car and certainly not expecting too much from it. To expect to be able to shift gears under 5000revs in a car that revs at over 8000 is not too much to expect. The amount of rattles and noises the car would make while just cruising along a road at the speed limit was worse than some 15 year old Corolla's I have been in. Have not seen too many New Accents with all these problems and as my Sportivo cost me way more than an Accent to expect it to be of at least the same quality would be reasonable. Read international forums as many owners across many different countries are experiencing very similiar issues. Count yourself lucky you got one of the good ones, but don't come in here making statements that it is basically just the fault of the owner or their expectations until you have sat your @rse in one for a day and experienced these problems. I was lucky enough to be able to afford to just walk away from the problems and get myself into a better car, but some of the guys here do not have that luxury and (because of my frustrating experiences) I will help defend these guys to the end. These guys deserve better than that. They need support not accusation or criticism. If you can't see that from all these posts then I will prey to G@D your car also gets struck down with these issues and then see if you still think the same. Now go outside and hug your car and tell it you are thankfull that it is a good one!
  13. Hey Eddy dont worry mate was not retaliating or offended in anyway. The first part of the post was just a little tongue in cheque/fun with the rest just trying to explain my reasoning. E-gene had it right in his post after. I agree with you that to get the issues sorted out all stivo owners need to stick together. As I have said in other posts a few years back I went through all this with BMW. After 18 months of hard slog we were able to get them to fix the cars we were complaining about. I just could not be bothered starting the whole process again, just too busy with work & enjoying the little free time I have to do it all again. Believe me after this battle you will probably think the same. As regards having spent the money to fix all the issues well I had with the clutch, but my gears had been grinding for 6 months before that so in the back of my mind always was the thought of what damage had already been done. I also had a dash that was B grade at the best. It rattled and squeeked more than an old bed in a honeymoon suite which Toyota would not remedy. The frustration I was feeling in this situation only a couple years after the same as with BMW was just starting to ruin my enjoyment of the car... And that is why I bought it and modded it. For me cars are the only real hobby/passion I have that gets me away from and forgetting about work. They are my stress release. When your stress release starts causing more stress than work then it's time to re-evaluate. This is my reasoning and I am only explaining it so you can understand my decision. If Toyota had of fixed my issues within the first 10 times I raised them then I can state with absolute certainty I would still be driving the Sportivo. As I keep saying I loved the car just not the company behind it! Are you turning up at the meet. If you are I'll buy you a cold drink. Truly was not having a shot at you! Cheers mate Damn your right eddy... seeing thost pictures (& they do look impressive guys - well done) I regret trading my stivo. What was I thinking.... It's time i should right the wrong.... Selling 1 slighly used metalic blue RX8, will be happy to do a direct swap for sportivo (and no I am not talking about you bill)..... Any takers... Anyone :P :P :D :D :P :D But seriously though I probably would not have traded the stivo if Toyota Australia had shown a little more loyalty to their car and customers. Best bang for your buck in my mind still, just a pity I had to pay for my own clutch to be able to use it, not to mention the Dash that creaked/groaned/rattled & vibrated even over the top of my radio. She and I divorced out of frustration not because I did not love her no more! Still can't beat that lift experience though ← ←
  14. It was me, I complained. It was just not right.... too much fabric, needed more skin :D :D :D :D

  16. Geez eddy that is a scary thought. I am about as trendy as a maingy rabid dog :( :( Hey Lucio I see your using photo's of yourself again as you avatar. I prefered your last one. I was rather hoping you would bring them to the meet :D
  17. So guys is Sunday 12th still on. I hope I am not going to be out front of Toyota HQ all by myself. A lone Mazda out front of Toyota... Hmmm might make a good photo. Anyway what is the name of the street Toyota HQ is on so as I can find my way there. I cannot remember the way from last time. Getting old the memory isn't what it used to be!
  18. Both stock I think would be one heck of a sprint. With 2 equal drivers I think it would be too close to call. Maybe the Stivo because of slightly less weight but it would have to have a good launch!! Modded I beat a couple accords without too much sweat, in lift it was bye bye. Anyone seen the Megane Sport yet. Saw one the other day and SH!T it was quick, the mid gear acceleration was impressive (jaw dropping) to say the least :o Ugly but very fast! Would have kicked my Stivo's butt :(
  19. Congrats on the new accord, sorry on the Sportivo! But you have to do what you feel is right for you. Although mine has been gone for a month and I do really enjoy the new car I still look back on the Stivo and remember the amount of good drives I had with it.
  20. No Peekays not competing or trying to be like me (although I do not understand why not :D ). We both just started to outgrow it for our own various reasons as well as being skeptical toward Aus Toyota's view of the car and us. He was really looking for something a little larger now and had the money to pay for it. I think me trading mine was the little push he was waiting for to do it himself because he had thought about it a lot previous to that. Hopefully see you on the 12th cheers
  21. Sweet. I wont have to slow down as much in the corners for you to keep up now :P :P :D :D
  22. Woo-hoo... Just found out I should be getting my new exhaust for the RX8 installed a couple days before the meet. Man this exhaust sounds friggin awesome, not too loud but deep with some of that crackle the 3rd gen RX7 is famous for. Performance wise no exhaust does much on the RX8 (because of the design of the side exhaust ports which include a couple hard 90 degree bends & a very stubborn ECU), maybe 5-7hp if you are really lucky. I getting it for the sound... & the nice polished 3 inch tips for either side of the rear. As big KEV would say "I'm excited"
  23. Me too :D :D :D The list grows: TRD_141 Lucio Libre IZZ-FE Ilivfor6
  24. If Toyota admitted there was a problem with the clutch that caused grinding & sticking of gears then for cars that have done a few km's I would think they would then also be liable for a new gearbox. I would think you would have a very good argument as Toyota cannot say what long term damage could have been done to your gearbox from a faulty factory part. Look at the figures $500 for a new clutch & $3500 for new gearbox and we have the $4000 figure mentioned. Unless they get a hot prod up the rectum from another outside body with influence/power I just can't see them doing anything about it. A case of there are just a few of you screaming so we can ignore that untill you go away, they don't see it hurting their sales figures!!! It's a shame because they almost got the car right. Pity really!! :( :( :(
