  1. Went to pick up a Yaris today (ended up waiting about 2 hours cos pre-delivery stuffed up). After all that waiting, car was ready, went to check it out, there was a blade scratch about 1cm. It was pretty deep and went thru the clear coat, past the paint onto the metal itself. Seems to me pre-delivery were in a rush to get the plastic stuff off and cut into the car. Location of the scratch was the in the front quarter panel on the drivers side (the panel thats above the front driver side wheel). Needless to say i was pretty peeved off and refused to accept the car in the condition it was in (and yes im still holding onto the money). They tried to tell me it was ok and that they would fix it next service.... wtf? They say they are going to respray it or something, do you guys think that is ok? Also is it acceptable for tints to have small bubbles (small clusters of about 4 bubbles within mm or each other)? Cos i know big ones are pretty bad, so im making them also redo the tints, but if it comes back with small ones, should i send it back again? 2. and realistically those ppl shouldnt be on the roads to begin with. The problem is that by giving those hopeless drivers out there ESP, you're given them some false sense of security, ive personally heard the "dont worry my car has ABS" comment one too many times from inexperienced drivers.... Now to watch stupid drivers drive worse because they think ESP will help them take a corner at even faster speeds (because thats how the car dealer implied how ESP works). Anyways, i'd actually like to see a vid to a fwd car utilising ESP.... anyone got links?
  3. Just bought a new Yaris yesterday and had the ppl in Toyota trying to upsell me an Alarm system. Do you guys think its worth it? Personally ive had my Corolla since 2004 and parked it out on the street and nothing has ever happened. Though my concern with the Yaris is this: 1. Yaris is a popular car (given all its safety features and all). 2. Quite a large number of Yaris drivers have P plates stuck on them 3. My guess is that the likelihood of Yaris' being in an accident are quite high (due to the large volumes of them, not because they are accident prone vehicles). 4. This would lead to a large blackmarket of parts required for repairs. I recall reading something about other people's corolla sportivos getting broken into and have the steering wheel / airbags stolen, should i be concerned if its a Yaris? The alarm was $795, and because the Yaris only comes with ONE remote key (stupid Toyota) it will cost me a further $495 for a 2nd key. This way they can code up both keys. Apparently if you use the non remote key, the only way you can disable the alarm is by hitting a switch in a location "only known by you" inside the car. Frankly thats not very impressive to me, cos there needs to be balance between where the alarm can be disabled if need be vs i need to be able to disable it quickly as i dont have a 2nd remote key. Anyways, would i be better off fitting an after market alarm such as Brant?
  4. Is that just the key + casing, or does it contain the transponder thing inside?
  5. aint gonna be modding a car for my mum! I'll be modding my own corolla before that :P
  6. Cant really see the point of ESP in small cars. Correct me if im wrong, but what is the likelihood of a 1.5 auto fwd car requiring ESP? The car is designed to understeer, so where does stability control really come in? Oh and we got a Yaris Sedan Auto :)
  7. ended up with a Yaris :) Just didnt want to pay the extra 3k for a corolla. One thing i didnt realise though was that the Yaris only comes with one remote central locking key (ie the $400+ keys that toyota charge you). The other two keys are just manual ones.
  8. hehe my mum has driven her Hyundai accent for 8 years now. LOL Its still going....well sorta :P
  9. Slightly deviating from that view, the Yaris could potentially have a higher resale value than the corolla based on the following: 1. Corolla has a higher supply than demand (in comparison to the Yaris) - Based on the fact that the Corolla is Toyota's number 1 selling car. 2. The corolla while more powerful, has less fuel economy than the Yaris. Given the prices of petrol (and the fact that it will probably continue to head up), a person looking to buy a car 3 years from now would probably take into consideration fuel economy over space and power. Bah! Still undecided. Who would have thought buying a car would be such a hard choice :(
  10. The Civic doesnt really appeal to me much as it is pretty big and is made in Thailand... still prefer jap made cars.
  11. lol... decisions getting harder and harder. Its a car for my mum. All she does is drive ppl. She doesnt need a big car, which is why i contemplated the yaris. However given the small price difference (say $2k), then its almost tempting. If she could drive manual, then Yaris would be a definite, but its the engine size + auto combo thats got me concerned, how does the yaris auto compare to the corolla auto anyway? Just looking thru the paper, Western toyota have got a Corolla Ascent for sale. From 17,888 Would i be right with the following figures: Metallic Paint = $300 Automatic = $2000 Dealer Delivery = $1,695 CTP = $395 Rego = $261 Plates = $34 Stamp Duty = 536.64 ($17,888 x 3%) Total $23,109.64 + Mats = $99 + Tints = $350 Have i missed anything? Also for all the guys who have done trade ins, which toyota dealer have you found gives the best trade in / change over price?
  12. you guys really think the corolla has better resale value? Tempting.....
  13. Looking to buy either a new Yaris or Corolla, so far the difference between the two (auto sedan's) is $2000~$2500. Is the corolla worth the extra? Or should i just stick with the Yaris? Even though the Corolla has got an extra 20kw, its also 250kg heavier. With petrol prices the way they are, the extra fuel economy on the yaris seems good too. Decisions, decisions. What do you guys reckon?
  14. My mum is looking for a new car (im trying to steer her away from the Hyundia Getz / i30) What prices have you guys got for the Yaris Sedan (YRS) and where? Thanks all!

  20. I need to get some new tyres for my car Conquest running on 16" Sportivo rims. Obvious problem, my car has a load rating of 88V, most 205/50/16 are <87V. Proxes 4 are rated 91V, so this looks like one of the few choices (unless i decide to ignore the load rating or got 205/55/16. Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for tyres, i personally did not like the dunlops that the rims were shipped with because the traction wasnt great, but at the same time, they did last quite a while (approx 40,000 km for me). Any other tyres that come close to lasting that long but with good grip, dont want to be replacing tyres every 20,000km. If you guys got any suggestions that would great! Thanks! 21. But its only intermittent at this stage.
  22. Ive started to notice a tap tap tap sound when I lock the wheel fully to the right to do a u-turn. Is this a sign of my CV joints failing? What is the best course of action from here?
  23. Yeah I love it how it forces people to correct their grammar, although I could imagine it getting annoying for some. Teaching people to type out full words is annoying? Reading imcomplete words are annoying! :P
  24. Nope I paid $150 for mine inclusive of postage. I missed a few that were sold here for $100~$120. And yes im talking about the 6 CD Mp3... thats what i got in my car atm.
  25. sinan you need to understand that telling someone to hurry the fck up does not actually speed up the process. In fact it might just do the opposite. If you're nice to someone, they are nice to you. If they were genuinely out to screw the order, the 1st batch would not have arrived and there would not have been any further correspondence. The fact the seller has actually responded (probably in the middle of his exams) is a good thing. Something tells me the seller isnt making enough out of these type of sales to drop uni, its merely a small income to supplement their lifestyle while they are going thru uni. Unfortunately uni probably takes preference and thats just the way it is. Good Cheap Fast. Pick any two. Just relax, the lights will come, stressing yourself out isnt going to change anything.
