  1. Castrol GTX 20w50 I haven't purchased it yet but its only $12, 60% off at autobarn I know its not synthetic or anything, but mineral is fine for me, after doing A LOT of reading
  2. Cheers mate. Will be sure to grab some then, at $12 for 5L its an absolute steal!
  3. Manual recommends 20w-50 oil for my 02 Ascent. Just making sure this is correct? Reason being is Autobarn has it on special for $12/5L Going to do plugs and air filter at the same time, service is nearly due
  4. This is often a common thing with cars. If the seller appears honest about it (use your judgement) then it could be legitimately lost, If not, it could be hiding an engine with major work done to it. Heck it may only run for another 10,000k and conk out. Honestly if you can have a decent mechanic, possibly a friend look over it before you buy then there is no reason why you shouldn't. A big thing to look at is REVS. Get a REVS check on the vehicle and it will tell you if its been in any accident before. I think if you do those two things then you should be pretty well right to purchase the car, assuming everything checks out okay. If you don't have a mechanic, and know your way around a car, Download this from the NRMA, a used car buying checklist Hope all goes well mate, keep us posted
  5. Run the neon cables back to the center dash and hide all your wires and make sure everything is secure and looks neat. eg Zip Ties You will have two neon boxes that you can hide in your center dash because there is plenty of room. Twine your power wires together and connect them to the power cable that is in the center of the dash that you just run. Solder and heat shrink and your good to go for power (Red Cable) Now for a ground, I just used an empty wire I had behind my dash, twine the two grounds together, solder and heat shrink to the ground wire. (Clear Cable) You could also use a bolt to the chassis somewhere. Plug your neons into the power boxes and put it all in the center dash and secure it with a few zip ties. Again make it look tidy. Install a switch to connect the wire from the battery and the wire to the center dash, connect your power wire to the battery (correctly, ring terminals) Switch it on and you should be good to go :) Here they are at night, looks great! Couldn't get a decent distance shot because I'm only using an iPhone but I can assure you they look great from inside and even out of the car :) Now I'm currently fabricating a bit of gal metal so I can make a switch board in the driver side glove box thing. I want this install to have a bit of class and not be noticeable so its the perfect place to hide your switches and I will post a pic up when its done. So theres everything guys, a great mod for little cash, with awesome results and will make your car just have a few more tricks up it's sleeve. Enjoy!
  6. I wanted to install neons on a budget. This is a very simple thing you can do on a weekend afternoon and looks great. All up I paid about $25 and it looks very stylish. The main thing was I wanted the install to be clean and not noticeable until they were on and I believe it worked out great. People obviously have their opinions about neons, some think its cool some think its just ricey. But honestly I like the look it gives and if you want to add neons to your car like I have, all I can say is, just go ahead and do it, the results just speak for themselves and anyone with a bit of spare time and a bit of general knowledge can do it easily. It really is that simple and I hope this benefits a few people :) Remember, do it once, do it right What your going to need. I got most of my gear from my local Autobarn shop. 7m of 5amp or 10amp power cable ($5) Inline Fuse ($3) Heatshrink 5mm ($2/m) Neons (eBay - $10 for 2 x 2) Speaker wire Zip Ties Soldering Iron Switch The neon wires are really small so you will need to extend them. Because the current is low if you have a bit of speaker wire lying around it will be perfect. The neons come with a box that splits the power into two, so its easy just to add some more wire after the box and extend the wires. I extended my neon wires about 30cm for the front and 40cm for the back Stock neons, obviously not enough cable to make them work. Strip your wires and, cut your speaker cable and twine it together. Solder them up and don't forget to heatshrink. Repeat for all cables that you wish to extend and your done. Find a hole to run your power cable, this hole had a rubber grommet that I just pushed through Zip tie your cable to a straight coat hanger and poke it on through. Pull off your Glovebox and you should be able to just grab the cable and pull through. Remove your dash (Guide Here) and run the cable through to the drivers side little box Remove the box just below your power mirrors and pull the cable through. This is where your switch will go Now run a cable back towards the center of the dash for the power. Once that is all done, wire in your inline fuse near the battery, within 30cm. Attach your neons to where you need them, the ones I purchased has a sticky backing and I mounted them in the footwells and under the driver seats. Very easy to do, and I suggest the ones I brought as they are great.
  7. hey mate. this is how my car came stock. it was a double din, with a little plastic panel as it only had a single din HU in anyway, thought these images may be of a bit of help. i know Ryda makes a double din for the ZZE So I'd be thinking get that and just put the little plastic panel there to cover up the hole left by not having a double din HU oh and the second image is the panel which I have removed from my car, double din dvd player in now with a playstation 2 hooked up :D
  8. Have any trouble passing rego with 20% mate? I have a fully black interior anyway :D Still deciding on 20 v 35 Honestly didn't think it'd be so hard.
  9. Sounds fishy, very fishy Any chance of being able to post up pictures of the belt? If it was stuffed then it would be pretty easy to tell where it was stuffed as it will stand out because the belt is practically new.
  10. 20 or 35% VLT tint? Thoughts?

  11. Thanks for the tip mate but I think I'm just going to do it myself What do you guys recommend for VLT? Yes I'm aware of the Legal Limit in NSW I can go 35% or 20%, the company I'm looking at buying from only has those two options. Opinions?
  12. A 2000 Celica uses 9/L / 100km in the city. And that is the best the manufacture could achieve. You will have many other factors that could push this well over 10L / 100km in the city. Whereas on the highway you may be looking at say 6L / 100km Basically any city driving will make a mess of your fuel economy simply because of the continual stop starting and the effort required to get the car up to speed each time you stop. Theres some simple things you can check/do such as: - New Air Filter or clean the one you have - Clean Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) - New oil and filter - New plugs/leads (plugs may be wet? indicate running rich) - Install a Cold Air Intake - Clean the throttle body - Clean the fuel injectors A simple search will tell you pretty much all you need to know about the things in that list and how to do them Those are some things that I would be looking at first mate, And trust me I know how your feeling it sucks seeing money go down the drain. But that comes with driving in the city, Just be thankful your not filling up a landcruiser, my mates is $180 to fill from empty haha Cheers
  13. Thats a link to the aerial Do you have a link to the headunit mate?
  14. Should be your best bet mate. Do it once, do it right and you'll be much happier than trying to stretch the 1m cable Just a question Do you have a link to your HU? Is it DVB-TV compatible? (Digital TV)
  15. Hmm Extend the cable run it through your dash and up the RH drivers side door thing (no idea what its called) The panel where a curtain airbag usually is and then stick it onto the top corner or your windscreen I'm not sure if your way will get as much reception but i've seen a few photos and the antenna is usually mounted ontop of the windscreen
  16. Well that depends if you drove in any rain mate? But even if you did, I doubt there would be water in your fuel tank and your new car will be fine! :D Not sure about generic caps, hopefully someone else will chime in on that Callum
  17. HID's installed. How to guide in Corolla section

  18. Now for my other side I didn’t have a socket, dodgy previous owner I believe was the cause Mount the ballast wherever you like, mine is mounted to the side Strip the wires back, wire strippers work perfectly everytime :) Get your solder out and secure the wires together. Don’t forget to heatshrink, install and your done! The finished product
  19. Got my HID’s in the mail from China today. As always, thought I’d walk you through how to install them. I got my HID’s lights from eBay, $36 delivered. For ZZE Corolla’s you need a H7 Globe HID set, get the 35W kit. DON'T get 55W This guy is a good seller, the price is so cheap and he has a range of light temperatures available ***PLEASE READ*** Before you purchase, you need to work out what temperature of light you want to run in your car. K stands for Kelvin, which is basically the colour of the light produced Halogen (stock) bulbs are around 3000K and are very yellow. HID’s start at around 3500K and go up. Here is a guide of HID colours. In my ride I am installing 4300K HID lights, they are white without being blue. As I’m a P plater, the less attention from the boys in blue, the better! :D The higher you go in temperature, the bluer the light will become. And the higher you go, the less light they will put out and ultimately the less you can see on the road. My opinion is anything over 8000K your running a good risk of getting pulled over. Anything below that and you should be pretty right and will provide a decent amount of light output which will just mean your safer on the road. Usually HID’s should be run in projector style headlights. Unfortunately these aren't commercially available for ZZE’s (no the US ones won’t fit) so you will have to retrofit projector lenses in. Projector lenses are the best way to go as they accurately focus the light onto the road and don’t blind people. Do a search, there are a few threads on this. In Corolla’s though, we have that little thing that ensures the light isn’t directly facing oncoming traffic, it bounces the light back and then reflects it again. So you should be pretty well right and not blind other motorists. But that being said, if your headlights aren't done correctly and are blinding people. Hint, they will be flashing their high beams at you! Don’t be an idiot and keep driving, fix them up. Because the people that you thought were thinking you were cool, actually will think your a d!ckhead for blinding people. So be respectful and do the right thing The only reason I have installed these is because I want to have greater vision when driving. It looks pretty sweet also. And apparently they save power? So I guess that is a bonus The good thing about HID’s is once the ballast is installed you can easily change the bulbs to different colours of lights. They run about $15 for a pair so they’re just as cheap as it is to buy stock bulbs. I’ve purchased a 6000K set just to see what they look like, if they don’t attract too much attention I will probably leave them in :) Its fully up to you guys what you run in your ride. Those opinions are mine and mine only and if you want to run a different setup, by all means do it. Just don’t be an idiot with your HID lights and your car and you will be fine. Oh and post up photos in this thread of your current lights, it’d be appreciated if we could have a few different temperates of lights represented! General word of warning, DONT touch your HID globe, the oil on your hands can ruin them Open up your hood and remove the rubber things that stop water from entering the light Unclip the clips that hold the lights in and bring them out, make sure you save the bulb, you never know when you might need it. Grab your HID’s. Plug it all together and get ready to install Find somewhere to mount your HID Ballast. Mine has an adhesive backing so it makes it really easy to install, just peel and stick Plug these ends in your light socket Test to make sure they are working, they will only work one way Install them in your light housing, clip it all back together and repeat for the other side
  20. More on what Kenshin said. He purchased one of these. The USB OBD that I referred to. It didn't work on his Sportivo because it was made in South Africa and does not fully support the OBDII protocol. Which is absolutely B/S because it by all means should be universal and the same for most cars in production. I have no idea about your car KevMan. But my advice is get the cable from eBay and give it a shot. Its $23 delivered and if it dosen't work, I'm sure someone on the forum would buy it off you. I can hook you up with the software mate. ($99RRP but free for you :D) Unless you have a mate who has one, just take the dive and grab it, its your best bet I have my OBD USB cable on the way (I have never used one as I have the WiFi version) I will let you know how it goes and I am very excited to test it. Just wish it would hurry up and get here. If your hesitant, do a bit of research, I'm sure there would be info on your car somewhere on the interweb Keep up posted and Kenshin and I will keep you posted on what we find as well (: Cheers Callum
  21. Its an Eonon mate. Not exactly a small electronics firm. Sold over 55,000 items on eBay and have a full sales website www.eonon.com They also speak good english (so far in dealing with them) which is surprising and they fully sponsor this website I wouldn't usually buy from a China supplier but these guys have sold so much I thought they could get it right. I don't want to have to send it back to them, because it will be a postage figure that makes it probably not even worthwhile :(
  22. Okay guys, Ordered a Headunit from Eonon, they sponsor this site and their stuff looked good. And the price was right for me. Picked up a D2102 from eBay for like $200 Got it today and got my ISO Wiring block. I had an aftermarket HU already so it was easy Plugged it all in and NOTHING at first. It turned on once for about 10 minutes. And hasn't turned on since I've checked: - All connections are secure - Old headunit still fires perfectly - Fuses are all fine in Fuse Box - Fuse on new HU was fine, but replaced with new fuse - Checked constant 12V, Ignition and Ground (before the ISO block and after) They were all reading fine on my MultiMeter - Took negative off battery and put it back on after a minute or two Honestly out of options here. Is there anything I'm possibly missing that could be done? I'm scared at sending this thing back for repair, because it will cost me an arm and a leg back to China And they might send me another defective unit out anyway, or worse try and repair the one I have... Just wish Eonon had an AU base I could send it too Whats your opinion guys?
  23. Definitely was thinking about doing it myself. But I was just wanting to have someone give me a hand who has done it before I have seen first hand the effects of badly tinted windows D:
