  1. Probably should make an effort to come to this, will be more certain closer to the day too (and as to which car I might bring)
  2. Hmm, time to start saving for cam gears, dumps. and re-tune...250rwkw on stock turbos here we come

  3. 112% sarcasm. If we had a dollar for every eBay power chip, fuel magnetizer/aligner, electric turbocharger or intake cyclone that has been posted on these forums by n00bs who think they totally work, we'd be rich enough to actually buy a whole tuning company who would actually MAKE products that work.
  4. because 190 is such an annoyingly low speed limit for a 2.0L hatchback..... Only place you'll get to faster is the hospital, or the morgue
  5. Fair enough, but they still make them there, and there is plenty of demand for Type R models in the rest of the world. Hell, the FN2 was even made in England and EXPORTED to Japan (along with other countries, including Australia).
  6. It never went into production because a proper production model was never produced, the prototype never demonstrably ran under load, and had major technical issues/downfalls. Also, BHP poured money into the engine long before it ever got close to being a production model - initial invention and investment was in the early '70s, the technology failed to deliver and by the 90's BHP had actually DIVESTED themselves - ie they got OUT of the investment. They didn't buy the patent and squash it, they wiped their hands of it, because they knew there was no money in it. So many conspiracy theorists/paranoid people out there that think every failed invention has been squashed by either "the man" or "big oil".
  7. Where did you get that idea from? Honda still make Civics, and they still sell them in Japan. There is no current Type R model because the Civic is smack bang in the middle of a changeover (and the failure of the old K20 engine to comply with EuroV) - trust me, they are still developing a new Type R. It is common for the sports model not to be released at the same time as the base models, usually it is 6-12 months afterwards. They have put on weight, yes, but they aren't "too heavy". A lot of it comes down to suspension tune more than actual weight - take a look at the GTR for instance, ~1750kg and yet it is one of the quickest road cars around. S2000 is 2.0L N/A, not 1.6L turbo. You're getting confused with the WRC regs, which are basically S2000 but with 1.6L turbos instead.
  8. Toyota ECUs normally aren't "chippable" in the traditional sense anyway. At minimum you'd need a piggyback ECU, but a lot of info points to the stock ECU learning its way around the piggyback (or at least fighting it) and then you're back to square one.
  9. I wish either of my cars were in good enough condition to get a good quality wax/polish....too many stone-chips/scrapes/black spots/discoloured clear-coat for it to be worthwhile...
  10. Superficially, yes. Effectively, no. Anything in the car which is electrical will increase the load on the alternator when it is turned on, which in turn increases the load the alternator produces on the engine, which decreases the amount of power that is available to transmit to the road, which means more power needs to be produced (and more fuel burnt) to maintain the same performance. However, the amount of power that the fan draws is very small in comparison to the amount required to run the air-con compressor - the fan would be in the order of Watts, the air-con compressor would be in the order of kW. Think of the difference between a ceiling fan (~100W) and a wall-mounted reverse cycle air-conditioner (1-2kW)

What about it? Only thing different about it is the exhaust tip, Toymods sticker and the Conquest sticker has worn off, apart from that it is still factory.
  12. Megacruise is pencilled in for November 27th, always a great day out indeed.
  13. Despite being on here for 5 years, I think that actually counts as my first spot Stupid Newcastle not having more TOCAU members :P
  14. The price doesn't indicate anything. The first line of the ad specifically states that it is a dummy listing with a ridiculously high set price so that it won't sell via auction/buy-it-now and that all interested parties are to contact him with a reasonable offer. There is no mention of what he thinks they are actually worth.
  15. So who's going to be making an appearance at Toyotafest on Sunday?

    1. MrRob

      MrRob

If I don't have to be at Supernats on Sunday I'll be there.

  16. Or you can read the ad and see that the price is set that high because he only wants offers and doesn't want it to go to auction.....

You "know" cars, and yet you still think that your car is worth 2-3 times more than Redbook value, and are considering swapping out one of the best 4-cylinder engines of the 80s and 90s (the 100kw 1.6L smallport 4AGE) for a non-turbo 1.0L twin-rotor 10A putting out a grand total of 75kw from a car 20 years older.
  18. Handy, but it skips over THE most important thing when changing gearbox oil - ALWAYS undo (or at least loosen) the fill plug before you undo the drain plug. It is extremely annoying to drain the fluid only to find that your fill plug is rusted tight and rounded off, and you're left with an empty gearbox and no way to fill it...
  19. From memory I think getting off was harder than getting on, before I had coilovers below, it's not too bad but Camry and Aurions have more overhang, especially rear and could be a struggle but not impossible, again depending how low you are.. Soarer made it last year, and that is almost as long as the ferry itself :P No bodykit though and only the stock front lip extension.
  20. Not impossible for most people, just difficult (if you have trouble going over a speed hump then you'll probably scrape), it depends partly on how far up the ramp the ferry ends up as it is much easier and less steep when it is all the way to the top. I've never scraped on it but none of my cars are ridiculously low.

I've changed my mind from clueless to troll. The $9k and R100 "engine" (the R100 was a car, not an engine, from the 60s/70s, and had a 10A non-turbo rotary) School holidays anyone?
  22. If I come along I'll be taking the ferry home anyway, so any company would be appreciated if your bumper is high enough to not chisel cats-eyes off the road...
  23. Booked the Snoarer in to get rear brake pads put in, diff leak fixed, KAAZ serviced, and pink-slip done before Toyotafest on the weekend.
