  1. I dont see why there wouldnt be a supercharger available, they had a TRD supercharger for the 1MZ so given that there is actually a model now with a supercharger would be strange if you couldnt get your hands on one.
  2. Yeah not only in terms of fuel efficiency the Camry looks bad compared to the Aurion but the Camry Sportivo for example is $35k! I think the higher models as well are even more getting into the $40ks. Why would you bother when you can get an Aurion with prity much the same features (as the ATX is very good value for money in particular) and a much more powerful yet also efficient engine.
  3. Thats the first Ive heard Platinum spark plugs increasing power! In fact from what Ive read at forums with far more knowledgable people then myself is that alot of performance cars (Turboed vehciles and the like) dont go with Platinums as due to higher combustion temperatures they cant withstand it as well.
  4. Oh brand new engine would be more, still $10k is excessive (I was talking more second hand / fully reconditioned engines are $3k.... which if you had to use your own money would be the most cost effective option!). As for the pic, yeah I have pics of the pickup and its not a prity sight... the person in question actually manually cleaned out as much as they could and as far as I know its still running (this is from another forum).
  5. ^ Yeah I think that is normal, mine has it, I think its because these engines have a shield between the valve cover itself and the camshafts... so oil goes on that which cools slower then rest of engine and gets abit solid. Thats not engine sludge as such, sludge is throughout the engine and is prity much a death sentence for it once some of it dislodges and goes somewhere it shouldnt be. See the attachment for a bad case of oil sludge. As for original poster, I would think you have a reasonable case if you had the car properly serviced as its something that should not happen... the $10k replace also seems VERY excessive when a new engine is around $3k, $7k for instllation... I dont think so!
  6. You cant go passed the Presara for value for money. The IS250 is nice but essentially you will only be paying extra for the image... becuase it doesnt have much more then the Aurion in fact it lacks in areas such as engine performance! (Which is no suprise because the Aurions engine and trans is from Lexus... more dissiplacement then IS250 = better performance with same fuel efficiency)
  7. I dont think it matters how much it revs, the faster your car gets up to operating temperature the better. The only time you need to fiddle with idle speed (in cars that have screws you can adjust) is when the cars idle speed once warmed up is off.
  8. ^ Well I would have to look around to be 100% certain, Im sure there was more to it then just a rear spoiler. Eitherway I wouldnt care if I was going to buy it, like I said the price difference between the ZR6 and the TRD Aurion really doesnt warrant major changes... theyve upped its power significantly, added onto its exterior looks, some prity noticable changes interior wise, stiffened up its suspension, given it bigger brakes and bigger rims... all in what we expect the $50k bracket. If they were asking $70k then I would say... your right, they need to have done alot more work for that much, but they havent.
  9. VERY NICE. If I had the money, I would get the ZR6 and I would get it in red... to me it looks better mainly in terms of the rear, as the brake lights and reflectors blend in abit more (they are abit to much in other colours as they stand out).... just a personal thing. Only thing IMO that they need over stock is some 19s... the stock 16s are abit bland for my liking, still looks good, but better rims complement the cars general good looks alot more, like this:
  10. I would say strucutral work if it was only a front strut brace.... its in one of their videos, to the back of the vehicle they have added something to reinforce the chassis, they claim it has a reasonable effect. I dont think anyone expects them to do the kinda work say an Evo has on it over a regular Lancer, afterall thats why an Evo is prity much double that of the base version in cost while the TRD Aurion is only $10k or so extra (nor is it meant to be a race car) ;)
  11. ^ Interesting... but still thats not much consolation, better to have the engine running then having to start up constantly (the stats out and about are that 70% or so of wear occurs at start up and that it takes 2mins+ for oil to reach every part of the engine). Anyway I did some research and the idling for 10mins thing is referring to initial start up, they believe its bad to idle for to long as it takes longer for the engine to heat up and being that engines are designed to run at operating temperature its not great for them (this relates to the original poster in that its recognised longer warm up is BAD... so dont touch the cars idle speed - not that Im sure you can change start up idle anyway, I would think thats done through the ECU whereas the idle screws on some cars throttle bodies are for regular idle). In my case where I have already driven and dont turn the engine off thats ok... as I would expect. Still not sure about the going to drive from neutral thing, I can only think the brake booster or something soaks up some more fuel... because the car has a tendency to push forward more in drive requiring more brake pressure. But then I would think constantly switching from drive to neurtal and back wouldnt be great for the transmission in the long term either. Maybe some things for the Mythbusters.
  12. As for thread topic, as everyone has said its completely normal... and it would be stupid really to reduce the revs, you want the engine to warm up faster and any fuel saving will be negated by the reduced life of your engine! Ive heard this from a friend... I find it hard to believe. In drive or neutral my car at least revs at the same level, so its using the exact or close to same amount of fuel to keep the engine at the specified RPM. Only thing I can think of is the brakes... maybe additional power is needed for that? (Im not extremely familiar with the entire braking system of cars but Im guessing some assistance is needed for the master cylinder or something... like the power steering does?) No way! Idling is putting alot less stress on the engine then when your driving and its under load, I usually prefer to keep my car running when I wait for someone that Ive dropped off then turn the car off and have to restart it (albeit not usually 10mins+)... better to have oil running through the engine then start it without it!
  13. Well I havent read yet thats its 235kw... Ive heard it wont be a V8 killer (as you would expect) but not that it has 235kw. Not that it matters, as someone said you lose less power through a FWD config, so the XR6T with 10kw more does the 100 in 6secs with 100kg more weight and less power TO THE WHEELS then the TRD Aurion is going to do well.
  14. I think go for 19s... the ones in the thread "Aurion on 19" wheels" or my attachment below (not my car, from carsales) would be my personally choice, they look heaps good!
  15. There is no easy solution. Some people use a number of extensions to do it but its still very hard. The only real way is to take the intake plenum off, if your confident enough then do it because its not that hard, can also give it and the throttle body a thorough clean while its off.
  16. Hahaha hit a nerve. No... this is a thread on the TRD Aurion, I am stating the facts on the TRD Aurion... thats hardly suggesting its the be all and end all in cars. Maybe you would be more suited to a Holden forum. Once again people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones mate... I have stated in the past I like the SS, I havent seen you on one occasion say anything good about a Toyota, you are truly biased (Why the hell you even come to a Toyota forum for?). I dont nit pick. And facts, I see all the facts... Ive proven this with everything Ive said, backed up with solid evidence, while your sourcing proves yourself wrong (for eg. the airbags, your own links proved you wrong). Im lost on this one... so other car makers have Aurions now? The point is which car is best value for money. PERSONALLY I believe the TRD Aurion on paper would be better then an SS. It has great looks, a great interior, plenty of power, no doubt decent handling, no doubt a long list of features, reliability etc. An SS does have great straightline speed (although the Aurion may be close to it), but it lacks things like build quality, interior, features and above all reliaiblity if you go off GMs previous generation V8s (nothing to suggest the current one will be anything different seeings as though its now pumping out more power). Edited: (IZZ-FE)
  17. ^ Why mis-quote me ... I said: Aussie Camry : "Lol wow $7k... what I said was right, stop nit picking small details" This was referring to your comment on how HSVs are $63 when I said $70k. However I wasnt giving an exact figures was I now: Aussie Camry : "FYI FPVs are like $60k and HSVs are $70k: That is nitpicking. My main point was the TRD Aurion is not $70.. this was proven by quotes from TRDs Corporate Manager, stating it wont be as expensive as FPVs and HSVs but is more then the XR6T... placing it between $45k and $55k.... so $50k as I said is a reasonable estimate. Youve missed this point as you have missed most. Now lets have a look at your false comments and how you lack any form of credibility. 351s lack of knowledge: * You say the SS has 6 air bags (funnily enough the links you posted had the details) * You knock the TRD Aurion but then say we have to wait till its released as soon as I mentioned the many upgrades it gets (so ok to knock now but not ok to say it looks decent) * You have a go at me about the SV8 error when it was the quote from the TRD Corporate manager * You claim all performance cars are RWD (The Lambo one was the funniest!!) * You call me biased yet I havent seen any post of yours which indicates you are impartial (Ppl in glass houses...) * You claim the TRD Aurion is similar to what Ford did between the XR6 and XR6T features wise - * You quote a biased article (Im quite sure the same people who own channel nine have a stake in wheels and carpoint - it doent take einstein to realise why then they would promote the Commodore and knock the Aurion) Edited: No personal comments (IZZ-FE)
  18. I personally dont understand why people want their cars to sound/look faster then they actually are, I can respect it as everyone likes different things, but personally say I race someone I dont want them to think 'how cool is my crappodore I beat a turboed camry' cos they beat a stock camry... instead Im more into the sleeper kinda thing, get some performance mods but dont dont advertise it to much.
  19. A number of them have AWD systems (I know Lambos definetely do)... the worlds fastest car the Bugatti Veyron has AWD.... any decent performance car within most peoples budgets (STis and Evo's etc) have AWD. The main fascination with RWD stems from what customers want, and customers want RWD... not because it performs better, but because they are more enjoyable to drive (Everyone loves to fishtail themselves into a pole). My point was performance wise the FWD is on par with a RWD, as shown by that article... a point you have obviously missed. Well your wrong. Go look at your own links... the SS doesnt have "Front head airbags/side curtain and Rear head airbags/side curtain" standard, they are optional, standard airbags are "Driver's airbag, Front passenger's airbag, Front side (thorax) airbags"... which correct me if Im wrong is only 4 Hahaha calling me biased, irony? Maybe you should do your research, it has bigger wheels, a supercharger AND bigger brakes, structural work, stiffened up suspension, new front lip, new rear spoiler, new rear bumper, different interior such as the seats (NOT just coloured like the SS but a proper seat that supports you under spirited driving) and some other things Ive forgotten. Its all detailed in videos circulating from TRD, not hard to find if you actually took the time to consider other options, but you are biased and dont research these things. The XR6T on the other hand only has a turbo added and slightly bigger brakes (not sure if thats std or optional). The rest is exactly the same as a XR6. Now we go onto torque steer... people like yourself claimed before the Aurion came out it would suffer from terrible torque steer, this was not the case. I dont see an extra 40kw and more torque having a significant effect, certainly TRD wouldnt release a halo car like this if it suffered from such drawbacks. Yes that works BOTH ways... you cant knock it down just yet. All I say is on paper the car looks the goods.
  20. Yes and $52k which is reaching if not exceeding the price of the TRD Aurion... and also still lacks the same interior quality (based on pictures of course so not 100%). The SSV does... the SS doesnt I believe. As mentioned, the SSV is also $7k more then the SS for what? Leather and two air bags! Holden make a nice profit on any suckers who buy the SSV. Same applies to XR6T and XR6, albeit on a different level, in this case the interior etc is all identical and only the engine is upgraded. At least the TRD Aurion has had extensive work done... for $5k extra. LOL nice biased source. You want to use quotes as evidence, Aurion Sportivo: QUOTE 1 : "If I were buying on looks alone, I’d probably opt for Holden’s SV6. If on the other hand, if I wanted the best overall sports package – then my money would be on the ZR6" - http://www.caradvice.com.au/1598/2007-toyo...-zr6-road-test/ QUOTE 2 : "It has been a while since the verdict in a Drive comparison test was so clear-cut. On price, equipment, safety features, fuel economy and emissions, the Toyota Aurion SX6 comfortably beats the Holden Commodore SV6 and Ford Falcon XR6" - http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleD...ArticleID=21521 QUOTE 3 : "While big six cylinder sedans are struggling to win buyers, those who are looking in this class have several great value models from which to choose. Compare Aurion's performance, features, safety, space and quality with any import and you'll soon see why it's Australia's Best Large Car." - http://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/SID-...m_Road_Test.htm But I really am clueless as to how this relates to the TRD Aurion? If anything it proves its good value, if the Aurion Sportivo ZR6 is more about 'flash' then 'dash' at $45k.... then at $50k the TRD Aurion which has flash and dash is a real winner
  21. I DIDNT SAY SV8, that was the TRD Corporate Manager who said that in the following quote: "Its going to be more expensive than a Falcon XR6 Turbo ($44,000) or a Commodore SV8 ($45,000) but it wont be as expensive as an HSV or FPV car. It will not be priced against the Falcon XR6 turbo, though. Its a lot more than just an engine upgrade. - http://www.caradvice.com.au/1834/toyota-tr...ld-you-buy-one/ Lol wow $7k... what I said was right, stop nit picking small details Lol how the f*ck have I p*ssed off members? And get my myths right... people around here were saying the TRD Aurion would be $70k because a friend of a friend said so... I have debunked these baseless myth with quotes from the TRD Corporate manager and now Im getting grilled for it. Wake up. Everything I said was right, the car wont be $70k, it will be around $50k (Your price quotes back this up... I dont know what the point of all that was). It depends on what you value... the TRD Aurion has a better interior then an SS by a long shot (SS has cloth seats std), it will be nearly as powerful, it will handle well (a number of handling upgrades done), no doubt be reliable (defintely more reliable then the SSs unsophisiticated pushrod engine), possibly return better fuel efficiency, more safety features (I believe SS only has 4 airbags standard, the base Aurion has 6 standard!), more differentiated from other models etc.
  22. ^ Yeah, Liberty is a nice car but when you weigh up all things the TRD Aurion on PAPER looks the better deal.... more power, better transmission, sportier look, maybe sportier feel with its suspension work, some luxury interior wise, all of the features you need etc.
  23. As others have said, the dam car hasnt come out yet and you knock it down, wake up. From what we do know it seems decent, some basic structural work done, suspension work, brake work, interior done up, supercharged, exterior work.... doesnt sound to bad to me. Mate I already posted the link to a FWD vs RWD test of two identical cars on the previous page... the whole RWD > FWD is a myth. The main reason why racing cars and the like down go RWD is because of other factors such as rapid tyre wear under racing conditions on a FWD car etc... things which are irrelevant to a street and occasional track car. RWD has the same limiting factors, it powers only one set of wheels, both have their own disadvantages and advantanges. The only truly superior platform is AWD. Exactly.... 1800kg+ doesnt go to well around corners. And in a Drive blog it has been noted that a recent test by wheels of HSVs and the like produced poor results (which they hardly mentioned - coincidence), in fact fluids etc started to overheat after less than a handful of laps. All these cars aernt race cars... they are for the street... no matter how creative their advertising is. Or do we have bogans around here that think V8 Supercars are the same as the ones you buy at your dealer?
  24. Ok to debunk some myths - 1. It is not going to be $70k ffs.... quote from TRD corporate manager: “It’s going to be more expensive than a Falcon XR6 Turbo ($44,000) or a Commodore SV8 ($45,000) … but it won’t be as expensive as an HSV or FPV car" FYI FPVs are like $60k and HSVs are $70k... so its hardly going to be that much. Its going to be around $50k, not to bad considering its had alot of upgrades, while something like an XR6T is $45k with only a modified engine. MYTH BUSTED 2. They are not limited it to only 100 cars being produced, quote from a respected article: "The whole idea of the TRD Aurion isn’t really to make money, the idea is to create a halo car that will help increase sales of the basic car. In saying that, TRD hopes to sell around 1,000 cars in the first 12 months." MYTH BUSTED 3. FWD makes the car totally crap : Although I will admit RWD is perhaps a funner experience, albeit more dangerous... speed wise they both have their advantages and disadvantages as they only drive one pair of wheels. The following article is the best source on this: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/cvetters3/test1.htm The only real disadvantage comes in what the customers want, in Australia people have a fascination with RWD cars... even if they are slow. An example will be the XR6T vs TRD Aurion... the Aurion is more than likely gonna be faster, but people will still opt for the XR6T. A current example is the Aurion vs VE... base model 200kw with a 6 speed trans vs 180kw with a 4 speed yet the Omega still sells! MYTH BUSTED
  25. Id go the Camry. Both have alot of similarities, reliable... power..... refinement. But for me the V6 Accords have never looked great (the Euros is nice though), so I would base my decision on the looks of the car as most other aspects are similar (Also I drove one ages back and didnt feel overly comfortable in it, but thats more a personal preference thing)
