  1. ^ Fair enough... but I still disagree with it, forget the name of the other award, but the Aurion was voted best large car, the VE Commodore was 3rd, its a somewhat amazing turn around from being last in a small category to the best out of every car (Albeit with more VE variants included in test) - http://www.theage.com.au/news/National/Toy...5080998654.html Does it also not seem the slightest bit coincidental that the Commodore has been winning these awards for quite some time now? Their newest car is by far the best (Although I still think the competition is better), how the hell did the other models win previously!?!? Like the VR for example, that is one big POS from my experiences driving it! Im sure many of the other models could fall into the same category.
  2. ^ It was my understanding from watching a current affair... that Holden entered the SS. Im sure people that watched it could back this up... they even mentioned in their story how fuel consumption is an issue to be considered. My MISTAKE! With this in mind, then lol the COTY awards are truly rorted... every review I have read doesnt cast a great light onto the VE (no a/c standard, rough drivetrain, the omega has a 4 speed trans LMAO my 93 Camry has that), they do for the Aurion though. A good short article on it as well - http://www.caradvice.com.au/1410/wheels-na...ar-of-the-year/ EDIT: Interesting little fact, since COTY awards started, The Holden Commodore has won the most times, being 5. Prity much every design has won - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheels_Car_of_the_Year. Hard to believe...esp the VR, Ive driven that and my 93 V6 Camry, that car is a total POS in every aspect (like power....1L more then the camry, yet 10kw less power.... its like History repeated, better Aurion beaten by crapper Commodore). That has sealed it for me, obviously something isnt on the level between Wheels and Holden
  3. Well Im gonna go off a trusted review on this one, rather then what you say which seems very unlikely "The auto SS will use 10-12 litres/100 km on the highway. Around town, expect 17-18 litres/100 km if you´re careful; mid twenties of you´re not" - http://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/SID-...ommodore_SS.htm. FYI I cant see a manual doing alot less, certainly NOT only 12L in the city... that is what alot of V6's get mate! You are wrong on about twenty counts. For starters, the VE Commodore SS won... it wasnt the VE range, as Holden is now marketing, if they had entered say the SV6, it wouldnt have even made the cut off let alone top 3. Secondly, I have said the SS is a good car, but in most categories the Aurion is equal with it, I can see only one major area where they differ (and it isnt power.... the SS is like 1sec quicker to 100km/h - remember its got 70kw more, but also 300kg extra to pull around), fuel consumption. And in todays climate, I find it very hard to believe that a gass guzzler which consumes fuel no better then cars 10 years ago can be our car of the year Explain how? Taxi companies have been using Holdens and Fords for as long as I can remember.... are you telling me they have all been reliable models? Last time I checked, they aernt exactly known for reliability, Toyotas are though. The point? You can hardly say because Taxi's use them they are reliable! I would say that other factors such as larger occupant space, larger dissplacement engines (more pulling power under load) and image (Australian cars) have a larger impact then the reliablity of Fords and Holdens, or lack there of it. Lol true... but I have a V6 Camry with 260Nm of torque... under normal driving conditions it has plenty of pulling power... and the Aurion has alot more. The only time it becomes unstuck is under heavy load, and I dont mean it struggles, but the engine does work alot harder then my friends Commodore when packed with people. So if your looking for a car based on when you drive a full load of people once a year or tow a 2000kg boat.... yes the Aurion isnt really an option lol.
  4. Mate... it is impossible, no matter how good of a driver you are and crap driver they are, fact is, they hav substantially more powerful car then yours. The Camry V6's have close races with them, I dont think one of the older 4 cylinders has any chance, esp with a manual where you could have at least got them off the line
  5. Well Id go the Aurion. With your choices, I agree the SS is nice.... but 20L per 100km, that is going to cost you a FORTUNE to run. The falcon, just because taxi's use them doesnt mean anything, Camrys of the past have a proven track record for lasting in excess of 300,000kms when properly maintained, but werent used for taxi's. While the similar year Falcons etc didnt last that long - they use the Falcon then sell them before any major problems show up, consumers dont have this luxury for the most part. The Aurion has refinement, more power then you practically need, the best fuel consumption in its class (I dont want LPG = Slower car) and if previous Toyotas are anything to go by, will be a dependable car. Just my opinion. EDIT: And as for the fuel consumption figures, Ive read other reviews which say the Aurion does get under 10L... its not suprising Wheels would discredit the Aurion, its more then obvious the affliliation they have with Holden.
  6. Nah a significant portion of the 1 Billion spent on the VE going to Wheels helped Holden for it.... only explanation, their car certainly doesnt show 1 Billions worth... esp when you consider that is like double what Toyota spent on developing the Camry and Aurion, with better parts, not sh*t from Korea - how many recalls has it been now?!? On a serious note, the COTY was the SS... none of the Aurions are in competition with that car, as at last look, they are not 6L V8's. Atm without the TRD Aurion, the highest Holden the Aurion is in competition with is the SV6... and as many a review has stated, their is daylight between these cars - with the Aurion being the better car. Can you back up your claims that COTY judges had issues with the Aurions cornering? Ive test driven the Aurion, have an older V6 Camry Myself, and have on countless occasions driven friends Commodores. The Aurion can hit speeds around corners that I thought were never possible, and make you feel totally in control - I remember hearing that its a rumour the Aurion can hit sharp corners at in excess of 100km/h, thnx to its safety systems. Furthermore, many reviews back this up... the cars systems such as traction control and stability control make it a very safe car when cornering. In fact, most reviews have stated that it is when compared to the competition, second in line handling wise behind the VE Commodore... but they do point out that this may only be due to tyre differences, the Sportivo for instance only having 215's while the Commodore SV6 has 235's. So me thinks you are talking out of your ar*e OR reading crappy reviews? The SV6 speed seems alittle quicker then it should be, everything I have read says the VE Commodore is a good 1second behind the Aurion (And correct me if Im wrong, but the SV6 has the identical engine to the base model... and same power output? So there is no reason for that figure to be any different). Maybe its just the whole wheels and Holden thing happening again... getting prity obvious now, everyone I talk to mentions it, even people who dont care much for cars.
  7. As someone already showed with the stats, dont be fooled... the Avalon would have a very good chance of beating most of the recent Commodores. My 3L Vienta gives them a run for their money, doesnt beat the newer ones but smashes the older ones (I have no idea of their model codes, pre1998 = old). Im quite happy to, considering they have nearly a litre more dissplacement and have youth on their side... yet only have like 5kw more, but weigh more and have a disgracefully rough drivetrain. Toyota Engineering ie twin cams > ****ty Commodore (Korean/U.S) Engineering ie pushrods
  8. My two cents on this... Ok.... this really is one of the dumbest comparisons I have ever seen. A $70,000 6L V8 compared against a $40,000 3.5L V6 (Not to mention you use the crappiest pic of the Sportivo possible). Geez Id want the HSV to be better in just about every aspect. Get the pics of the HSV and compare that to the Aurion sports concept (prity much TRD Aurion which is its competitor)... and then see which one wins Is that really a suprise coming from wheels? Every review I have read and every customer review... has said the official figures are spot in, it consumes under 10L. Wheels more than likely pulled their figures when testing the car for wheels car of the year, thrashing the crap out of it. Do you know how much the VE SS consumes? Not driving extremely heavily, 20L per 100km.... the Aurion is half. How in the current petrol climate a gass guzzler like that can be the best car I have NO IDEA. The only explanation is some back door deals. Anyway... my point here is that the VE Commodore is a POS (Im talking about the direct competitors of the Aurion, so from Omega to SV6 only). Quickly, here is some supporting evidence to this fact: Im sure some of you have already seen this : http://aurionv6.com.au/toyota/aurion/#aurionV6/battleOfThe6s And the biggest one, which puts what Ive said beyond any doubt: http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleD...ArticleID=21521 THe SS which won the wheels car of the year is a good car, it has the handling of the lower models which is meant to be really good and actually has some power to it unlike the other VE models. However, I still say, the Aurion is virtually even with it in every aspect... even handling wise many reviews have said its only alittle behind the VE thanks in part to the Aurion Sportivo's only have 215 tyres compared to the SV6's like 235's.... but the biggest factor should have been fuel consumption. The Aurion is powerful yet fuel efficient. The SS is powerful but guzzles it down no better then V8's of last century. If your willing to have to spend literally DOUBLE in fuel a year for 1second off the 100km/h sprint between the cars... then so be it... but I know where Id take my 40grand -> Aurion
