  1. Hi All

After a whole day's anticipation for my sportivo to have the recall performed, I got into my car after work, drove out of Sydney City Toyota. and WOW!!! I immediately feel the difference made by the recall! The rattling noise is completely gone from the gear shaft, now there's not a single rattle in the car, I can finally enjoy a peaceful drive. The slightly jammed first gear is also fixed, now the gear slides into from first into second very smoothly.  :D  :D I did not notice any increase of power in the lower rev ranges though, the lift still feels very distinct at about 6000rpm.  The car feels completely different and I couldn't stop smiling all the way home.  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

They replaced the gear select cable, adjusted the clutch pedal, replaced the ECU, replaced the gear knob, the gear now feels heavier and smoother in and out of the gears. The air vent (without the aircon on) now blows cold air, where previously it always gave warm air without the aircon on. Don't know what the recall had to do with this.

    :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Why did they replace your gear knob?

  2.  ok so im in the minority, well considering the range of other cars you can purchase for $40,000 I would have thought people would choose another car.

:D  If I had that sort of cash and could get insured im sure id splash out for it too though.

Yeah man, but I think if we spent that $10,000 to mod our car and personalize it, it's worth man~!! We would have spend time, money, creativity, effort ......etc to our babe. So there is "love" between us  . I like that feeling and everytime you go have a look at you car, you will have a strong feeling of love ~ I think you understand what I'm trying to say.

If we just spend more and "buy" it from the factory, yeah it might be a better car, but it lacks that "strong love" feeling if you understand what I'm saying. For me, if without putting effort to personalize the car, it's just a "normal" car just a form of transportation for me :D

    What you guys think ????

  3. Rather than posting in the many threads where we've talked about the gearbox issues, I thought the fix deserves it's own thread.

The fix to our gear change issues is contained in the Toyota Technical News Flash dated 30/11/04. It is a simple adjustment of the clutch pedal height and master cylinder adjustment. The gear changes are now crisp and clean regardless of where you are in the RPM range. Bang it off the limiter and flat shift with no baulking whatsoever. It's a different car to drive and best of all, with each gear selected, you stay on lift.

I had the mods performed by Nunawading Toyota (who were again prompt, professional with no fuss whatsoever) today.

All of a sudden I'm enthused again.

As the Nike ad says, just do it.

    Cheers

Just wanna I ask how can I get access to the Toyota Technical News Flash ?

Is that on the web?? Or is it a magazine that I can take from somewhere??

I wanna have a read of that ~~

  4. Hehehe if you want to feel better, my last car (which I bought brand new) went back 25 times for repairs under warranty in the 24 months I owned it. Problems ranging from them forgetting to weld the back end to the chassis right through to the engine dying while changing gears on a freeway.

Yup, the last car was bad, nothing I could possibly have now would ever be worse :).

    What car is that, man?

  5. For Servicing in Melbourne, there are Two (2) good ones that I know of: -

    1. Josh Sady Toyota

    2. Melbourne City Toyota

let them know that your part of the Toyota Corolla Sportivo Club and they will take care of you.

    Cheers

Are there any Syndey stivo fellows can suggest some reliable and trusted dealers??? I wanna get my gearbox issues looked at? I'm not a native English speaker, so I dun wanna bargin and "fight" with those "cheaty" dealers. They may take me a week or so..to look at that issue but ends up with an unacceptable outcome.

    Please help!~~

  6. Hi guys,

I'd read so many posts regarding what people got the parts replaced or fixed by a dealer. I have never done any of those and I can notify that the problems that were raised by the other members are actually exists with my stivo. Before reading those posts, I just can't notify myself :( .

Anyway, it seems most of the stivos have the common problems, so can everyone who had got the parts fixed or replaced by the dealer under warranty. Can you please add those items with a brief description after that?

I do this for the purpose of getting a list of "fixes" that can be done by the dealer under warranty to help those members like myself who have never got any form of fixes from the dealer so that we can just follow that list and ask the dealer to help.

    1. Gear Selector Cable - Vibration

    What else?

  7. According to US users, they are great on drop, settle at 3' drop for the US model. The spring itself is comfortable since it is soft. Great results with Koni too. Hey E-Gene, why not get TEIN Wagon Damper coilover? Or TEIN SS coilover.

I think the "Type Flex" is a good choice~!! As I read from a japanese magazine about car modification, many Nissan Z350 Fairlady used it.

They are cool both for track and street ~! :D It have 16 level for you to tune to softness and hardness.

Btw, how much does it cost for a TEIN suspension? :o

  8. There are are a Total of 5 lights that would require replacement with Leds and 3 Condoms of your colour choice. LEDs Are prely directional so you cannot replace the Aircon and Clock units with LED (they do not disperse light in all directions). Also LEDS are polarity sensitive so you must get them around the right way once installed.

My advise is if you have no idea get some one to do it who knows how to or has done it before because you can cause damage if you were in Melb I could help but.....

I'm sure about getting LEDs and I got no idea about the resistors.

Can I just buy those "condoms" instead? What's the difference between them??

  9. once u have the climate control out there are about 6 screws and it also clips in but be careful cos there is a ribbon cable there that comes out easily, then u should be able 2 see the things 4 the bulbs... hope that makes sense

Sorry, I couldn't even get the climate control out.. :(

Can you describe from the very begining of the process?? :o

  10. the instruction in that web site...only shows pics about the corolla without the climate control.

What about our stivos with climate control?? I couldn't even find a screw or anything that looks like that can be opened :(

    Anyone?? Please give some advice

  11. hahaha. You make the cops sound like nazis!  :D i just can't see the problem within having blue lights outside your car. i had the blue led park lights but 1 of them blew after only 1 week. I've got the philips blue vission. they come with white parking lights.  :)

Ooh, nice HID's btw, KT.  :P

Yeah.....qkslvr, I'm also with you....I personally dun see any problem with the blue LED.....

but in fact, the police really DID picked on two of my friends who both have blue light outside under two different circumstances.

Maybe it's because those officers had got a bad day or being scolded by his commander or whatever :P ....when they see something which is abnormal, they just pick on you coz the officers had bad mood.

So, just to avoid those trouble ~ I think white is not a bad choice for parking light... :D . My idea is just don't give a chance for the police to pick you ;)

Say, if in one evening, you were planning to have some fun driving or crusing, the police pull you over on the road, how bad would it be?? That will destroy your mood of the driving and you may need to explain to the office and beg for a 2nd chance......I think it's just not worth....... :D and too trouble..... :(

Anyway, just personal expression and thinking to share with you guys only...... :P :D

Btw, what is nazis.....I'm not an english native speaker... :P

  12. If you look closely at picture 6, you'll see that I still have the original parking light in yellow light bulb.

I'm hoping to replace those with white or Blue LED's so they match the color of the HID. :D

Oh, buddy.....please dun choose blue....I know it's cool....even myself I also like blue......but.....the POLICE will pick on you  :o

It's true.... one of my friend had a blue parking light before...was picked by the POLICE. And I had another friend who drove a Civic, he had replaced the rear Honda "H" badge with the one which have blue light "H" ......he was picked by police !!! The officer said.....no BLUE light outside your vehicle....!!! Fortunately, the officer gave a chance to my mate...and tell him not to do it anymore, otherwise he would be paying for a ticket :o

  13. Taken from the FAQ of a reputable HID Kit brand's website
    2. Will the HID burn out or melt the lenses of the headlights if it’s plastic?

Though HID lights are brighter than normal bulbs, the myth of it being hotter is in actual fact wrong. The advantage of a HID light is that it has lower power consumption. A 35 Watt H.I.D. light produces up to 3 times the lumens at the light source when compared to a 55 Watt halogen bulb and 5 times the lumens of a 100 Watt incandescent lamp.

Therefore, the XENON HID system will draw less power from your vehicle’s electrical system, thus resulting in it being cooler than normal bulbs as they use less energy.

The light source of a HID light produces a blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight. The color temperature is approximately 5000 K compared to 2300 K for halogen. Thus HID lights are actually cooler than normal bulbs

That was a GOOD quote...~~.......I just heard from..one of my friend........

    I was cheated too~~

haha....anyway........if I dun raise this point.....I would keep misunderstanding the HID~~~ haha

However, I still got a question "the colour temperature of HID is about 5000k while the normal bulb is about 2300k, the how come the HID is still COOLER than the normal????"
