  1. In all fairness, I don't think it is realistic to expect car sat nav to have the same flexibility/functionality as portable units. After all, TomTom is a minicomputer running linux with the power that exceeds some desktop PC's 10-15 years ago. So you can have ant functionality you want on top of just GPS tracking.

Car satnav, AFAIK is firmware based, integrated with the rest of car electronics, has to be simple.

Totally agree. I have an 'old' Garmin C which is basically a marine unit but which can also accomodate Garmin City Navigator Australia software which is far superior to Toyota software in just about every way you care to imagine and which I can interface with my laptop. Why not the Toyota software (USB memory or cable)? This would not be an expensive option

Portable aftermarket GPS is great until some one steals it had several Garmin and TomTom, I agree the std Toyota one is very average/ simple but has got a great screen and it does work.

  2. All I can say I have had all my cars tinted and any one who tints the drivers and front passengers Windows full on black to match the rear or more are DHs

Its very dangerous and may catch you out in the long run just think of the pedestrian you run down who can't see your face behind your dark shades its not poker your playing with here its peoples lifes......Something to think about, It happened to me last week and I was on foot and a car was entering a drive way at speed I could not see the drivers face or any thing for that mater you we didn't know if the prick was going to stop.

We all like a bit of privacy M_M sometimes its good to see your face don't you think? why do you think its illegal ? Do you wear your sun glasses when you get your photo for your license or equivalent?

Because you have got to be able to see the driver of an Vehicle

    Thats enough from me cya

  3. I dunno about that one, it looks a little too chunky to me to suite the kluger. Seems like something more suited to a landcruiser or prado.

But if you need it to do a job then you may have to live with the looks.

Unfortunately I havnt seen any klugers with bull bars on them yet, so I cant compare it to anything else.

Thank you all for your comments and thoughts, it helped a lot. I agree the bull bar is somewhat heavy and chunky looking and in the end, I have decided in favour of the Toyota nudge bar. Hopefully will not regret my decision.

You made the correct decision Leeder, you want your new Kluger to stand out for the right reasons, I do some country driving as well and have hit roos in the two last cars they like jumping into the side of my rides, may be they dont want to walk or hope any more.

I did not like the nudge bar at first (it came on the car as a demo) but now the others look strange with the standard broad face bumper look with out.

  4. Would love to get this!
For the US Highlander, they offer the following option for towing.

    Towing Prep Package [3]:

    l 5000-lb. towing capacity

l Heavy-duty radiator with engine oil cooler

    l 200-watt fan coupling

l Transmission oil cooler with water cooler

l 150-amp alternator and prewired harness

Do they offer this here as well when fitting a tow bar?

Is it necessary or would it be a good idea?

Would not like to pay for this its oviously a yanky over kill!

For carring a big V8 mussle car not a nimble RX8 .....LOL

    Bigger isnt always better

  5. Hey,

Well a mate of mine wants a medium sized SUV. He occasionally gos on the beach, and is wondering if the kluger can handle the beach with no low range?

Id say yes  see left picture on the beach use the snow function to stop the engine from racing leave it in first and take it easy, took mine off road at easter time and it was great the Down hill decent was used for the first time for 15 minutes of steep gravel down hills with the trailer on

  6. Mine is $60k3 drive away with tow pack, nudge bar, sidesteps, mats, rubber cargo mat and some free plastics for having to wait soooo long. Ordered it Dec 10 for whats now a late April delivery, all because I wanted a blue one!!!!

Chullora Nobel Toyota, I already weakened them for you! good work good Colour I bought the Dealer Principles car there! Is yours AWD? If it is thats a Mad Buy! We have Been driving our Blue one since October last year  ...Happy waiting your a definite number for some one! :whistling::yahoo:

Yes it is an AWD ,mine is the Glacier Blue not the Tidal Blue :P . My neighbour just picked up a new Aurion and the bugger got a cyan blue one :( and I couldn't bare having two cars the same colour sitting one meter away from each other in the driveways so I changed mine to the lighter colour.

I must be dreamin... I tried a large local Brissie dealer, who insisted these prices couldn't be true, and tried not to use the L word, saying that $60k was below cost and so they quoted $65157 for Crystal Grande AWD with 2008 plate, f/r park sensors, towbar, mats, roof cross rails.

I spoke to a private fleet buyer, who came back with a price higher than the first quote I got from the dealer as a Saturday walking, and wanted $175 for the deal. They bailed when I set a target of $60K, pretty much saying you're on your own.

So I then rang Noble Toyota in Chullora and they said they'd get back to me with a price, but went home instead.

Who did you speak to at Noble Toyota? I spoke to Steve, the Sales Manager, New Cars and this deal didn't seem to ring any bells...

Never thought it would be this hard to spend $60K, perhaps I'll keep the Discovery...

We dealt with Sam but unfortunately Steve makes the final decision. Good luck they will say its a 70+k car!

  7. It is not a sports car but it at least should feel better than a Volvo??!?!?

It is quite noticeable and so much so that there is not enough grip from the rear outer tyre when cornering. Hey I just realize it myself recently. A simple clever sway bar change will do it.... (I hope not spoiling the off road ability at the same time).

That was the first mod to the XT, the rear heavy duty sway bar from Whiteline, nearly every one does it on the the Forester's as a first mod its recommended.

  8. getting up to 20,000k service,

Wow thats a lot of k's already....

Anyway where do we start we've only done around 7000ks, but no real problems. Its an AWD grande.

    1. I don't like the handbrake or foot brake, but the XYL loves it.

    2. We've got a rattle that occasionally comes up in the dash.

    3. Would have liked more storage in the back when all 3 rows of seats are up.

    4. Would have liked a split 3rd row seat.

    5. The navigation sat/nav cant be customized enough and cant be programmed when car is moving.

    6. I think the sound system is pretty poor both in sound quality and control.

    7. No memory in seats.

    8. Need more road feel through the steering wheel, its too insulated from the bumps on the road.

    9. ABS is way too noisy and too much feedback to the pedal. ( for me anyway)

    10. Would have liked a solid cargo cover instead of a blind, but then where would you store it.

    11. Too many cup holders, especially the two in the centre console, I would have liked cleaner lines on that centre console.

    12. No speed warning/ speedo is out/ and odometer resolution should be better.

    13. Headlights don't seem concentrated enough, especially high beam on dark freeways.

    14. I think the paint needs more coats, its seems a bit thin after the inside wheel arch was scratched when the kids dragged their school bag over it.

    15. I have a suspicion the plastics may also be easy to scratch after our centre console shows rub marks from a tissue box sitting there.

Theres a few there and I'm sure ill think of more, but in the overall scheme they're mostly minor own preference type of issues.

You bought the wrong car mate!

    Now do the big positives

We have the same car and love it, nothings perfect

  9. I have heard that the speed of the actual crash was close to double the printed speed.

They printed as 100kmh... so you are saying that they are doing close to 200kmh?

Can Kluger even gets to 200kmh?

It would do 200 if pushed...140 it does not even break a sweet, not sure on the gearring...need the 6th speed for this test!

  10. As of 5.30pm last night we are now the proud owners of a bouncing baby black Kluger KX-S. :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Complete with very meaty looking tow pack (more for protection against touch parkers than the occasional trailer tow) and carpet mats (hadn't arrived - expecting them today).

It looks fantastic in black and I can't wait to drive it. Our garage (which is big) smells like a new car. And the truckster makes my car look like a go-kart sitting next to it. :)

We also ended up getting some headlight protectors thrown in at the last minute the day before when I asked them to make sure that the fuel tank was full when we collected it.

CONGRATS HAVE FUN WITH THE NEW TOY

  11. Nice Avatar PC XT, looks really good in that pic, where abouts was that?

Anyway will definitely need more investigating on the sat-nav.

I wonder if there is an invisible button on the screen that you need to keep pressed to invoke any menus similar to the Range-Rover Denso units?

Thanks it was a top spot we stopped at on the cost road from Foster, Elizabeth Beach felt like we were in Hawaii

  12. hi guys new here being reading 4 a while ,i have got a black Grande coming soon, want to order front and rear sensors am i better off going with toyota or getting after market ones also does the dvd player read divx disc

Congrats, DVD does not read DivX

  13. Thanks guys... I forgot to mention that it's FWD. The Forester is AWD and that rarely goes off the bitumen as it is.

Good luck with your final choice, I currently own both cars both the high spec models both great cars I would buy both again, prefer to drive the Subaru because it would out perform the Kluger any day any location on the Bitumen. Off road capabilities would be a different story.

I recommend you take one for a very spirited test drive to see if you are totally happy! If your happy offer them $35k with all the extras you want they can only say no dont let them Give you the price tell them the cars already depreciating like a rocket and the warranty and car is 8000kms old now! Good luck hope it helps, remember to ask them for a full tank of fuel before you sign your life away.... :spiteful: :)

  14. I think I get something different. I can see two different menus.

I have my car running and have the parking lights on, keep the finger on the info button and switch the lights off-on three times, or keep my finger on the display button then off-on 3 times.

Lots of interesting info and diagnostics but I couldn't faint the screen for the blacking out features, found a screen to adjust the Mic input level for the blue tooth though, which was a bonus as I always thought the Mic was a bit low.

Looks like theres lots to play with and it could even provide info that gets used by the Toyota service guys.???

Yep saw all the Diagnostic screens every one is talking about, we need more info on, I tried Toyota again today with out any luck...still trying time will tell

Thats funny, I would have got the Tidal blue any way

  16. I might have missed an info on how did you do that - could you please let me know?

    Thanks

The hard way, I installed a small Creative 2.1 PC system in the back with TINY sub woofer and 4 NXT speakers basically now the kids can listen to DVD with out the headphones on 24/7 cost around $150 all up because I had to buy two speaker systems to get what I wanted. Sound sweet for the $$$. Thats how I discovered the DVD Doesn't turn off automatically with the ignition is turned on and off also you cant stop it from the rear unless you use the remote or eject the DVD.....VERY Strange
