  1. Wrong attitude IMHO

A badly maintained car is real abuse. How you use the car is not a form of abuse. I change engine oil every 5000km on my Kluger, every 2000km in my sports car.

e.g. if you don't put your sports car on the race track and maintain it frequently, you engine will be the first to fail. It is 100% true on the NA rotary in Mazda RX-8. All the other owners tell me, after oil and spark plug change then hit the race track for a few laps. The car comes live and the engine gained some power back again. Also, idle is smoother and car starts the moment you turn the key.

Every time I change the engine oil and run hard in some nice premium fuel in my Kluger - the car works better and runs smoother. Also the fuel economy improves.

A clean engine is a happy engine. They need to some exercise - just like your dog.

Agree with all points :) except the dog bit mine is small and old and getting lazier there are exceptions to every rule..

  2. Stop abusing your Kluger. Do not take it off road.

"Do not drive the vehicle off-road.

This is not a 4WD/AWD vehicle designed for real off-road driving. Proceed with all due caution if it becomes unavoidable to drive off-road."

    (Kluger Owner's Manual, p131).

    Nice FIND

Even Toyota don't like there Hilux's going off road, its like a precaution of all the manufactures Subaru as well!! Ask them all about river crossings they will say not recommended or suggested.....the don't want risk... which is what we face when we hop in the car and go to work every day!

I would not do what you do with your gear box all the time as its under load as soon as you start moving putting it back in and matching revs etc would be worst for it.... Others may want to elaborate a bit more. I use to do the same type of thing with manuals and not use the clutch coasting etc its a killer on the selector..

  3. I don't know why anyone would by an expensive in dash unit these days when portable GPS units are so cheap and offer superior features as far as the navigation is concerned such as:

Ok I will be on the negative team and speak from experience and as a retailer and techo.

    1. Cheaper map upgrades (or free upgrades if you're inclined to obtain a copy illegally)....torrents but no one uses them right!
    2. Regular firmware upgrades. Why? Do you have problem with is operation as a GPS AND THE BACK BONE OF HOW IT WORKS?
    3. RDS-TMC traffic data for Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney. Good point if it worries you
    4. Redlight and speed camera locations. Most vendors offer updates, and some even offer live updates for mobile cameras. It would be a Nice have
    5. Speed limits and warnings on some maps. True
    6. Ability to take it with you to another car.......This is the biggest problem besides being an eye saw on the dash......The thieves love them they even look for the suction cap marks on the glass as you did not want to take your GPS shopping with you did you? Its under the seat?? Don't leave it in sight it will go! And guess what it not insured either!!!or not worth insuring
    7. Ability to make user corrections to maps such as with TomTom's Mapshare Who Cares leave it to the pros

By the way honey do you know where we are now? and where we are going too, no I left the dam GPS at home again!!!

Sorry just had some very very bad experiences not to mention my customers and friends.... I'm sure you know some one?

Moral of the story don't leave them on display and make sure you security lock them etc.....it doesn't guarantee you'll get them back either, also do you know how to get Home from here? Ask the thief hes got our GPS dear!!!

The GPS IN the grande dosn't have all the bells and whistles of the cheap mass produced items because its designed to work for the next 10 years or so your portable GPS WONT GO CLOSE FOR LONGEVITY

Also one thing the STD Grande GPS does that no portable one will ever do is use dead reckoning, work extremely quickly at start up and work in tunnels because its connected to a speed trigger regardless if the GPS can see the sky or not! Not that many of need help in tunnels but it sound and looks better than searching for satellites or poor reception or a dull screen you cant use because of no GPS reception.

Any one else with a Grande? seen the GPS not ready to display as you start the car????? No because its always located....

We all want more I know but the Grande GPS has a lot of positives in my books.

    LARGEST DISPLAY

    HARD TO STEEL

ALWAYS IN THE CAR READY TO GO

    DEAD RECKONING

    QUALITY AND LONGEVITY

    NEAT/INTEGRATED

    GOOD PRICE MAPPING

I did exactly what you did with your installation over 3 years ago and they took it one year....... I was lucky they did not take more and do more damage than they did + break a window as well....

  4. Well for those who do get one I recommend getting some fluffy dice to go with it.

I would suggest that with your current friendship making skills that you should keep away from the Kluger guys unless you have something constructive to add.

I think the dice would go well but not sure of legality of them hanging from the mirror! :D

  5. remember you cant disable it while on the move!

you can press it once, which takes traction off but stability on, which is pointless as if do lose traction it kicks back in straight away, of hold it down for 5+ seconds and it is fully off, traction and stability.

It would be interesting whether the traction control does work well on slippery stuff compared to having it completely off?

That must have been the beeping when it looses traction in sand, it was on, I should have turned it off when I got to the slippery stuff, the beeping was a bit annoying. :D as well as the retardation as Borat says

  6. I agree with reducing the heat of the dash board and protecting it but I just dont like carpet as the result.....its seem cheap and takie, but if works who am I to judge my dad used them on his sigma and intergra in the 80's so there could be hope for me yet!

  7. Creek crossings too - Deua NP. I reckon Kluger does pretty well off road, provided the conditions are not too difficult. Got me to and from Bendethera no probs. But I did reach its limits on a steep uphill rocky stretch of track. Biggest issue for me is only having road tyres ... especially when driving on tracks with sharp and/or large loose rocks.

I thought id seen those crossings before, I did Bendethera about 2 years ago In My XT Forester no low range, manual, no problems add water and it will be a different story.

You don't want to do too many river crossings like this! Short and sweat!!

Note water over bonnet coming off each side nearly hitting wing mirrors

  8. The Blue Tooth volume to the other party is the still totally unsatisfactory and a major dissapointment in this techo era.:angry:

The next and last absolute most stupid feature is who the hell in Toyota land signed off on the volume control thumb clearance next to the dash surround.:angry:

Still don't like not having a mute button on the head unit.

Some of the reasons I didn't even consider the $3740 Toyota navigation system.

Do you have audio problems in the Grande?

I think the problem for the LOWER MODELS also the Hilux is the Microphone is in the radio eg low in the dash not like the Grande's up in the roof!

  9. While on the subject of DAC, I noticed on descending a trail with erosion control humps that DAC appeared to drive the Kluger at the controlled 5kph up and over the humps ... or was it just my imagination?

Yep I Noticed that with a trailer on going over those humps as well..... a bit to slow for my liking but if it was raining hard it could be a life saver.

  10. Sounds like we missed out on a lot the US got

At this point I still cant get the DVD cover off, if any one knows something about it would be a great help, as Toyota have No idea as the car is too new now

Does any one know any one that has done this yet? I still have a audio cable running across my roof!

Did you end up with any success on this. I'm expecting delivery on my Grande next week, and I've asked my dealer about this as well, no surprises that they still don't have a clue.

    Thanks....

Nope cable still hanging there for over a year now!

It doesn't seem to worry any one!!

  11. How about for offroad driving....does anyone know the recommended minimum pressure? We took to the beach the other day and dropped the tyre pressure from 38psi to 20psi. This seemed to be okay and we got down the beach and back up a fairly steep sandy hill track. However it did make me wonder at the time how low the tyres can be.

I used 20PSI in ours two weeks ago and it gave a great feeling!:yahoo:

This is a real photo no editing, I'm at the rear of the car not the front!!

  12. I've got the Toyota Liner too.

It's one of the first things I get in a car - the boot liner. Saved me from all sorts of things.

Just a note though, that it is rather soft. I was rolling it up in a hurry to put the third row up, and the liner caught on an umbrella, and got a hole poked through it.

I was suprised how easily the umbrella went through it. On the upside though the rubber seems to have contracted back around the hole, and I can't even see it now unless I go looking.

It would seem its not a good idea to roll these mats up guys! I think they are made of cheese............ :D

  13. Good luck with your future Kluger. I do, however, highly recommend getting the rubber boot mat as well. In hindsight, it should have been my highest priority accessory after towing kit.

    On the down side

Andrew, just keep an eye on the rear mat, mine is nearly in two pieces as it has torn up the seat belt slot on one side :o , We find its a real pain when it comes to lifting up the 3rd row seat when you are out you end up rolling up the mat, I think that's how it started the tare off and it just grew because it is so heavy.

I like the Subaru ones better, because they are lighter, higher lipped and easier to clean but unfortunately do not fold so would not work with the Kluger when out on a trip when you have to use the 3 row. B)

Lucky it was an extra that was in the car that I did not pay extra for! :)

  14. sory to bring up the old thread. i have a kx-r (17" rims anyway) and been driving it for 2 weeks now. yesterday i decided to check the tyre pressure and i was shocked to find out all 4 of them are at 48psi. i didnt deflate them yet cos i been driving them with that pressure for 2 weeks now and i found them to be quite comfortable to drive with. only occasionally a bit too hard when the road is terribly uneven. issit safe to be inflated that high?

Prados are set to 50PSI from Japan :)

  15. Is it possible to output sound from the dvd in the back of a Grande to the factory head unit ?

I haven't figured out how and couldn't find anything in the manuals.

I used the side headphone socket on the Rear DVD with fixed external speakers.

But I suppose you could use the optional Ipod socket to input now!

Head unit does not have a std input

FM Modulator is another option from rear DVD others on hear have used!

  16. I think there's something wrong with the whole thing. Whatever the sensitivity is, there is a setting for a delay between the sensor detects the dark and the lights are turned on. If it i set to say, 60 secs but the lights are still blinking inder bridges - there is no way it takes more than 60 secs to pass under the bridge ion M4 at 110! Some time ago I asked this delay to be increased from default - still no difference!

Hope Toyota will have it fixed.

    True!

You have got a definite problem then!
