  1. Hey, I noticed the exact opposite, mine changes down gear very consistently when you demand more power via increased throttle input (but my Kluger is also stupidly fast *proven VBOX3 analysis*, much quicker than factory claims or other magazine tests) so I don't know if I just got a freak one or not? But am amazed with the way it performs.... I find the auto changes spot on when it either D or the other mode (lol I know my car well hahaha).

Maybe it could be a software control thing you can ask the dealer about?

Hey I recon I have a Monday Made press car aswell (Mine was one of the First pre orders in OZ) so is the Foz THEY both scream for stockers!

There are a certain amount of Press cars made with Different more aggressive tunes and tighter tolerance etc Not much is known about them, I heard about it last month when my forester was on the Dyno...its not huge but it helps ;)

  2. Because of a previous topic concerning tyres, I had a look at the specs on the tyres fitted to KX-S and Grande. I found that these tyres are rated to only 180kmh. Is that why Toyota claims a top speed of 180kmh or do they also electronically limit the speed to 180kmh? Ah NO!

It would be interesting to find out what speed is actually possible, as long as it can be done safely. I don't know if legally is possible.

When I eventually need to change my tyres, we only average 10000km per year in each car, I will probably fit the Yokohama ADVAN ST V802 in size 255/55R19. They have a slightly larger OD but this should fix the optimistic speedo. They also are rated to 300kmh, not that that would ever be possible.

I have fitted Yokohama tyres to all my previous cars for the past 23 years and have found them to be the best value for money as far as grip/wear are concerned.

I've just gone through the pain of purchasing new tyres for my KX-S. In the end I settled on the Bridgestone D400's because I've had no trouble with them regarding wear, noise ..etc.. I considered the ADVAN ST and in fact they were cheaper than the D400's but the oversize tyre may cause more problems. I was told to watch out for the front tyres rubbing on full lock as there's not a great deal of room under the front guards. This can be fixed but added more cost.

From a pricing perspective, the D400's were quoted by three of the larger national tyre chains at $550, $515, $489. Next I tried a smaller independent tyre shop called "King of Tyres" at Baulkham Hills (Sydney). They said $450 each - SOLD!!

The best price I got on the ADVANS was $437 by JAX Tyres.

just a side note - beware of the "king of tyres" they have a hills district reputation as the "kings of wheel nuts left off car". Too many times i have driven past only to see a car up the road from them missing a rim, and it has happened to a guy i now live near, from the same shop... moral is - Check they're on tight yourself.

That's great info Guys....never used King of Tyres and they are only 5mins drive from me! Lucky I don't like lose nuts!

Do you know what you have to do to the front guards to fit the Advans? Because the rubber thats on there at present does not phase me either way, I think they are a pretty average Tyre :o

  4. I'll be watching with interest what tyres you end up getting mate!! I reckon I'll be looking for something in a 255/55 - just that little bit bigger than the stock 245/55

You can lead the way mate! :D

Yokohama 19" 255/55 R19 107 Y Advan S.T. - Ultra High Performance I got 50K out of the XT's not that they are legal at the moment,

these are going on next month just arrived from Japan coming through customs as we speak

You may recognize these Andrew they are fitted with new Aspec Yokies what ever they are :D

  5. For what it's worth, I rotated the 5 tyres on my KX-S AWD on the weekend. It's got 30,000km on the clock and this is the 5th rotation. There is still reasonable tread left. On my Kluger I see absolutely no evidence of excessive wear on the front tyres - all tyres seems to be wearing evenly without any noticeable feathering or scrubbing. Unless the dealer has had one done, it hasn't had a wheel alignment and is used for 95% country road driving.

    Cheers

You Lucky duck ours just clicked over 30k this month as well and will need new tyres in the the next 6k or so.

I want to know if any one has put wider tyres on the stock 19 inch rims?

  6. Hi, I'm after a 09 Kluger Grande 2WD with front+back sensors, front+back mats, I got a quote on Toyota gold fleet discount of $62,553 drive away. Is this a reasonale price or did others get theirs at a lot cheaper?

There is a reason they are called Gold Fleet :D , seems steep to me ;)

  7. Here's my rattling issue, the dealer service advisor found a loose screw on the speaker behind the audio unit for the warning buzzer (so they claimed) and they did rectify the rattle, next was slight rattling sound coming from under the steering wheel, upon inspection I found that it came from the knee air bag cover. They re-fit it and no noise can be heard as yet. Hopefully thats the end of it.

That reminds me must book car in to get new windscreen and redo dash with new revised felt mounting clips to solve the rattle problems with the Klugers!

  8. so the screw in points are only good for being towed on a road if you break down, but no good for recovery from the mud or sand.

has anyone out there fitted a recovery point? Either front or rear?

Without them I'd be a little bit afraid to venture onto the sand

If you break down on the road call a tilt tray never tow your car, the eyelets are for emergency times only basically not to rely on for continual use, you will be fine on sand but go with some one who is experienced if you are not

  9. There is a front point for the hook behind a plastic square in the front bumper but if you have the nudge bar fitted it is covered up by the bar so not sure what to do in that instance

the plastic square pops out and you screw the hook in to the thread

I believe the nudge bar may be attached through these points. There is a corresponding removable patch on the front plastic cover of the nudge bar which I think is the tow point. Haven't ever taken it off to have a look.

I still wouldn't rely on it as a recovery point.

I have been told by the AWD club and Toyota Mechanic not to use the screw in points!

And Yes the emergency towing eyelets can be screwed into the nudge bar mounts

I have never had to get pulled out and not looking forward to it as I have also been told I don't own any real 4WD's....which is true to a point more Luxury Performance than off road, I look at it as a % you use the car off road to it being on road for most it would be very luck to be 5%

If it worries you go and get some professionally fitted from ARB or the like

  10. Ours does it too, I use the Hill Holder all the Time.....But make sure you put your car in gear not in N when you go to take off it could be messy and you end up revving the crapper out of your car and go nowhere fast the wrong way!! :o

  11. FYI The new Kluger only comes in Auto

Thanks. So Toyota's even spoiling the fun for the off-roader as well.

That's where 80% of the market is today in Japan you only really need a manual for 5% of the time today any way.

  12. FYI The new Kluger only comes in Auto

Ours is coming up for its 2nd birthday and I must say have never heard a clang from the box

Do you park on a hill?

  13. However, on the first try with a single layer DVD... the performance on the DVD system was choppy and had delays when you use the POI functions.

A second attempt using a better brand DVD and a dual layered one (Verbatim), the disc runs smoothly without any problems : )

    Thanks for the directions PantherX!

I found the same problem will try the Dual layer that I did first.

  14. I wish I had known from the beginning that the original Dunlops weren't being brought into Australia, as I would have included my spare in the mix which I had rotated every service.

Now the 4 on car are worn out (60,000km) and I am left with an orphaned brand new tyre when I replace all 5 next month.

If anyone wants to buy my 17" Dunlop let me know. (I'm in Caloundra)

If you were in Sydney I would consider it.

I most likely will go Advan's all round like the XT :)

  15. Soft disable means there is data and Toyota not displaying it???

I am sure there is a way around it?

I wonder new owners are kind enough to share a copy of the version 15. I have a copy of version 14 from someone copy the disc onto a DVD+R DL.

I am willing to do the copying when someone lend it to me for a few minutes...

Hint for old players, you can save a couple of Bucks this time round you only need a Single Sided DVD+R.....NOT THE DUAL LAYER  That is all :yahoo:

  16. Im very close to ordering a Kluger AWD based on the belief it has a different system to the RAV4 - that is; unlike the RAV4's 'on-demand' setup, the Kluger is an actual AWD system and drives all four wheels all the time. However, an article I read about the Kluger today indicated the AWD Kluger is the same as the RAV4 - 'on-demand'. Can anyone shed some light in this and confirm what they understand the system to be?

    Cheers,

    Dan

AWD Every day all day with the Kluger :yahoo: .....Is the Rav on demand that would explain why they are a handful to control of the mark and in short bursts...Just heard that last week.
