    Towing caravans

As a matter of course, I usually do not like towing heavy items with front wheel drive vehicles. The load on the back (imposed by the caravan or trailer) lifts the weight of the front wheels and reduces traction and steering. For this reason I purchased an AWD Kluger. I use to tow a caravan with a V8 Calais, but I think the Kluger appears to have ample power and have less affect from the caravan due to the extra body weight. So far ,I am very happy with its performance. Towing a 780Kg caravan reduces the fuel consumption to about 14L/100K at about 90kph. Without the caravan and sitting on 100kph, I have seen as low as 9.5L/100K.
  2. I have to install electric brake controller and need to run two wires to the battery and one to the trailer plug in the rear. 1.Has anyone run wires from inside the cabin to the engine bay and where did you thread them throught ? 2. Has anyone removed the door sill covers (plastic section) as there appear to be no screws, so I assume they snap into place and can be pryed off ?

    Kluger Sat Nav

Bodin I am not sure if this will help as I have a Grande which came with GPS, but it sound to me that after you have selected the destination, you have failed to select a route (button on the left bottom of screen on the Grande). Therefore it would make sense that as it only knows starting point and destination it cannot give you instrucvtions during the trip.

Interesting to know the reason behind electric brake control? Taka the electric brake control is required to operate the electric brakes on a caravan or heavy trailer.

    towing

I am about to install one and I am mounting mine attached to the bottom of the dashboard panel below the small compartment you are suggesting.
  6. I have a AWD Grande in Merlot Red, if you saw the red on a RAV4 it is lighter and has a more metallic appearance. However I am very happy with mine.
  7. And if you do, what assurance do you have that it will end up in your car ?
  8. As you have pointed out, an 07 plated car is already one year old. If you bought it it would be worth about $8000-$10000 less than an 08 build. I certainly would not entertain it for less than $6000 off the new car price. I just took delivery of a Kluger Grande AWD, the dealer quoted 6 weeks delivery. They delivered it in 3 weeks. So providing you are flexible about the colour and configuration I am sure you could get one in less than a few weeks.

Wait for the Voice asking you to say the voice label you want added 7. Wait for acknowledgement acceptance.
  10. Took a drive to the Mornington peninsula on my new Kluger Grande AWD (200K on the clock) and did another 300K which included 50/50 freeway and suburban driving. The fuel consumption shown was 10.3 l/100K which I was very amazed about considering the engine is still new and quite tight.
  11. Hi I just took delivery of a Klugar Grande AWD and I had read about the towing pack for Highlander in the USA. I asked the salesman about it and his comment was that in Australia we got the USA sport suspension option as standard and that he thought we also got the extra capacity radiator. However bear in mind this was a salesman talking. However for seroius towing while the extra radiator capacity would be great the real need is for a tranmission oil cooler. The Klugar has apparently a transmission oil temp alarm and it will be interested if it every goes off to signal a high temp situation.
  12. I have tried the Info button answitching the headlights on and off. But nothing happens to my GPS unit. Any hints ?
  13. Hi Taka Thanks for this, it is the first diagram I have seen. However I have read that the Kluger can supply 0-100 % torque to any wheel and this would suggest some means of torque distribution either Viscous coupled or electrical clutch system. If you have any more information available on exactly how the AWD works this would be most appreciated. Again thank you for the supplied URL link.
  14. Hi I am new to this forum. I am about to take delivery of a new Kluger Grande AWD. My query, which I have asked of dealers and searched the internet for is; Which type of Centre Diff is in the current AWD Grande ? The para below, which is and extract from a report on the previous model, suggests that it may be an electrical one, if Toyota have carried this foreward. Does anyone know for sure ? "The entry-level Kluger CV and mid-range CVX employ a constant AWD system comprising a viscous centre coupling and a limited slip rear differential. In contrast, the top-of-the-line Kluger Grande and CVX with the optional Safety Pack (as tested) use an electronic torque-split AWD system in place of the viscous coupling. This is said to "provide more precise and smoother traction." Note that the optional Safety Pack also adds electronic stability and traction control and four extra airbags."
  15. Hi can you tell me where you got these manauls as I am looking for a manual for 2008 Kluger.
