  1. there isn't a spec time on how long ur stock shocks lasts but i'd say atleast 2years. depends also on how much you drive and how you drive and what roads you drive on.
  2. haha my bad typo... 8cm don't worry i got alot of flack about it by the cops. but none had a ruler... they measured by their lil notebooks. it was actually 11cm at the start after coil overs were fitted but it sat eventually at 8cm funny thing is cops didn't even know legal height... they asked me what it was. they just said it looked too low... not the mention my orange led parker... they also asked about that. and i just told them it was standard bulb. st**pid cops..
  3. yeah sorry bout what happened. man. i don't think there is a deterent to these type of people. the more you do the more smarter they get. just look at the amount of subies get stolen. that's why insurance for a subie is high. the other option is get a decent alarm system with a sim card in it. not only you can track your car but the company that makes them can track it too and police on request. Also by dialling the number on the sim on the car it shuts the car off giving police time to get to the scene. a system like this costs around $2k but gives you peace of mind specially now that it has happened. the best thing is get a good insurance company.
  4. i've tried a few now, on previous cars, wear and tear on shocks really varies on product but nothing is really designed for that unless you get custom work done. at the moment i'm using stock shocks with superlows. its not doing too bad but really any lowered shocks are going to die off quicker than standard. i think just stick with stock shocks because the ride is still less stiffer as if you went adjustables or coilovers. be prepared to have a hard ride. and as for manuvering over bumps if its that low... do learn... takes a few chips and oops to get it right. hehe my last ride was 8mm off the ground at the front. hrmmm that took a bit of time to get used to.
  5. yeah i experienced this problem at a set of lights about 1hr after CAI was installed. The problem only occured when clutched in and in 1st gear. but as soon as i put it in neutral and clutched out the problem was gone. I gave the car a bit of a thrash and problem was fixed. I think the problem is caused in the a/c control unit that connects with the MAF sensor. The ecu is trying to adjust air variations and not used to it. Maybe its only the people that have CAI installed. After removing the air resovoir maybe that could be it? I'll see how i go its only been a day since i've had my CAI but i've had plenty of time to idle with and without a/c and the problem hasn't come back yet (knock on wood)
  6. BUY BUY BUY ← cheap cheap buy buy :D i don't think the joins in the simota have any disruption wat so ever. the only thing maybe is the diameter. so far so good for me. but i really push replacing the simota filter... its smaller than k&n extreme. when considiring purchase... look at price!
  7. hehe take it to the dealer :P as for rattles does anyone actually check where its coming from? maybe its just the rubber mounts that's loose or something's loose. might be an easy fix. if not. take it back where you got it and get them to fix it. fixing it yourself and something goes wrong might void warranty (most places try blaming it on that.)
  8. darkeh TRD - 1 piece AEM - 1 piece Injen - 1 piece (apparently) Simota - 2 piece Generic brands (ebay) - 2 piece check posts in Cold Air Intake
  9. There's plenty of posts but an easy one is www.2003corolla.org DIY section. you won't miss it
  10. hehe save $200 and camp out for a nite :P six weeks.... i'm sure you have room for a saving of $200 there....
  11. ok coolant runs through throttle body. the design is to prevent throttle body from freezing up. there are 2 hoses that runs through throttle body. 1 is entry 1 is exit. pull both hoses out and join together. therefore bypassing throttle body. there is no need for throttle to be heated up as our climate aren't freezing temperatures. where i'm from... Cairns qld definately not. unless you have snow then i would reccomend doing this mod. Less heat is always good. Danz - 1zz should really get this mod. its $200 and now that i have seen it fitted its so easy. 1zz - its good bang for buck. i see it as a cheap mod with great results. not only performance but you get this kickass drone out of the filter. but maybe coz its k&n extreme. Simota is a good product. Just drop in ur local autobarn store.
  12. MWAHAHAHHAAHA, yeh well its a proven mods man, and I KNOW as much as YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT. ← Now that i have experienced it. I have to say i agree with danz. 1zz its the cheapest decent CAI i could find. But i do recommend changing the pod. you'll see when you get it. simota pod looks like something you use for an oil breather :P. Danz, not sure what coolant bypass had done yet because i did it the sametime as the CAI which is unfortunate. To say the least i know its less heat obviously as for feeling changes i can't quote on it as i have nothing to compare to. But with CAI its a great drive and the drone out of the filter is awesome. Alot better than standard k&n.
  13. Well fellas its come to this..... i've just been driving all day... :P did about 200k's today. hehe simota is installed with the K&N extreme filter $220 :D fitting cost me $50 through autobarn, it was easy, and bout the second mounting bracket we had to mount it ourself with a diffferent screw. its nice and snugg now. everything is going great. Also while i was there doing the CAI i also managed to buy a hose joiner for $5 and i also did the coolant bypass at the sametime. very easy mod.. i'm very surprised how it easy it was. heres a pic of CAI
  14. Come on people. it can't just be these selected people that has the rattles? that or don't care... just need to know if you do or not.. whether it be an issue to yourself.
  15. paradox.. i wasn't implying that you put a 3sgte in your rolla. sorry if you had that impression. you know what i wonder if toyota rally would sell a crashed corolla.... i'm sure they'd have one laying around... then the only thing to do would be body work etc etc and some engine mods and engineer aprovals... imagine the output on the engines out of them.... yes imagine this in the ae92... from launching a few times (and i mean only bout 5times) the muffler is badley dented.... it actually smashes the back end down. although it doesn't help that the stock suspension is still there. There is problems with launching as we're not getting much traction. on the dyno its managed to slip. this is why alot more money is involved just fine tuning the car. although its fun to think this might have a potential to do very low 10's on street trim. we're expecting to wait a further 6months. the build has taken 8months already. most on the engine but there are other work done like wide body, chasis being strenghtened etc etc... all the extra $$$.
  16. clearly i'm always going to miss out on meets.... i live in Cairns QLD someone organise a cruise up here.... :P danz- yes the battle of intakes. i mean everyone is going to have preferrence whether it be true or not. what you have installed your going to go buy because noone really has the money to switch intakes. for those who do please keep us posted. i mean any CAI that is half decent is going to have its gains. Whether it be 1kw difference to the other we're not going to know. Unless it gets tested.
  17. Its actually an aluminum alloy... ← More news on the Injen im interested in... Its a two part pipe. Aren't CAI's more effective as a 1 part pipe? What CAI comes in one pipe assembly? ← this matter still has to be proven which piping is better than the other. Wed i'll have simota piping and k&n extreme fitted. soon after i'll dyno. i'm sure someone has a simota piping with simota filter. if we could get everyone dynoing what they have we could probably determine somehow. but just depends what else is modded on the car. it might be hard.
  18. ae92 sx with 3sgte.... i won't say figures i'll get some dyno sheets for you but it won't be soon. $32k + on build. if it doesn't do 10sec runs we were stupid to spend the money. 3sgte engine was the best option. check out an old issue of autosalon... starlet with 3sgte in it. with half the work done to it. same people doing the ae92. Labrador Gold coast. Subzero. starlet was doing 10's. go figure.. paradox - my bad its www.mrtyrally.com.au
  19. use FTP mate. if you can't send through mail. host a server then get the receiving person to download off you.
  20. i totally agree with rollamods. although purchasing an extra 1zz is going to be more costly in the long run as these engines are very expensive although would make build very easy as the engine is out and will be mounted. paradox. it will be a hard build. as we've experienced in a ae92 sx and doing a mr2 3sgte transplant running a garett t88 yes (1000hp) turbo was planned and budgetted to $20k, the build ended up costing us $32k so far..... there are hidden costs and tuning and labour are very very expensive. write parts down and price. and to save labour purchase the whole lot and really think about what your doing if your going through this. i'd atleast outlay a figure of $25k for this build so you know what your up against. Its not going to be a short mod so expect time delays etc etc. don't rush it as its only going to drop quality of workmanship. where abouts are you? by the way if you want to know who MRT is jus visit www.mrt.com.au mainly for subie's but they are (i've heard) one of the best for building gearboxes.
  21. be aware that the top part # that silva quoted is for the 45mm OD not the 51mm OD ;) ← I have an acent not a stivo <_< so thats the right OD I've allready payed a deposit and now waiting on a set of TRD springs so theres no point in me chasing coil-overs now. ← loose the deposit.. or cancel it... just tel them its family matters (hehe) get the coil overs. i had it in my MR lancer.... ooohh they were nice... although i went to fulcrum...
  22. hmmm nice set up. you know without the excess gear the stock internals can handle the subie turbo's. already your getting a custom manifold. your car would be good for about 170kwFw don't forget a flywheel and clutch upgrade.... and the stock gearbox should be alright just don't dump and throw the gears that hard. it can be hard..... just ask a friend of mine who owns a subie... blew out his second dog box... mind be interesting to see if MRT can do anything with the box... hmm this job is sounding in excess of 15k taking box into consideration. let me ask though.... why not buy a turbo car? for 15k + cash from the sale of the ascent would get you a pretty pimped out ride...
