  1. ^ Mobil 1 FTW, all the Don Mega types use it :D
  2. I should check my kuntz, have not looked at them in 10,000km lol
  3. Well did my second round trip to Canberra (from Bairnsdale *home*). And the results are consistent (1000km roughly round trip). To: 9.8lt per 100km (uphill) From: 8.8lt per 100km (down hill) *this is hilly terrain both ways, not ideal for minimum fuel consumption* ^ On both occasions Each trip I had about 200kg worth of engine and other parts in back, each trip consisted of probably half a dozen full throttle over taking events (up to 140kph or so) and sitting on pretty much 100kph GPS speed on the way. On flat land with 100kph speed consumption is around 8.2lt per 100km on all the trips I have done. So the long term average of 9.8lt I posted above (including all performance testing, stop starts etc) is pretty good in my vehicles case. Great car :D I really enjoy driving it, my only one grips is the cruise control is nothing short of dog sh7t !!, ok on flat but basically useless on hill sections.
  4. I did my Vic to QLD trip in two modes Going there I drove at 100kph on speedo, did 8.9lt to 100km over 1700km or so (will add photo later). Coming back drove Qld to Canberra in one stint, and drove like a homo and enjoyed it heaps more! (120kph on GPS! in spots for long durations). All up economy was 9.1lt when I turned up back home. ^ It makes little difference on that test. On a side not I left the fuel trip meter and now it has almost 5000km registered and the combined fuel consumption (including my performance testing) is 9.8lt per 100km..... *that is a true long term fuel consumption test* 100% the slower you drive the less fuel you will use, in the Kluger the slower the better (even down to 60kph in drive) but it is a balance between boredom and annoying other motorists, bit of common courtesy should be applied I feel. If you want to save fuel and keep normal speeds, best bit of advise I can give you is turn off your cruise control as it is utter garbage and chews through fuel for no good reason, if you must use it only have it going on flat road and on any hills click back and take over with manual throttle control, and watch your fuel consumption (especially in hilly terrain) get much much better.
  5. Well its been a while since I posted and I have been wanting to put up the actual Air Fuel Ratio's my Kluger runs during a wide open throttle application both in 2nd gear and also in a 0-100kph test, below are following graphs of a detailed 2nd gear pull through to the rev limiter and the other two are 0-100 tests and the final is a overlay of another test I did a few months ago with my other AFR instrument (compared to my high specification instrument), you will see the higher spec one registers the excessive RICH mixture the Kluger feeds the engine on the gear change period ***Why Toyota do this is beyond me*** but it is enough to register the lower limit of 10:1 on the first instrument and on the other comes close to the 9.0:1 limit... Anyway enjoy. Note both are very high end professional tuning tools calibrated with $1000 new sensors installed, they are very close to each other and the test was conducted in the identical location with same procedure *albeit on different days etc* the fuel metering is very repeatable 2nd gear pull 40kph to 105kph *UPHILL* high load and richer by a few points v's 2nd gear 0-100 test on flat (last two pictures) 0-100kph test 1st to 2nd gear mixture 0-100kph test 1st to 2nd gear mixture, two different tests and two different specification *calibrated* AFR instruments
  6. mayhewga-great post. I feel bad now about doing so few km's with my Kluger haha. I have noticed the odd time I too have had bad economy (only twice in tank terms since new) and both of those times was with BP98 at my local Bairnsdale outlet. <_<
  7. I almost bought Pajero only thing stopped me was that ultra gay rear tail gate! *** I hated that!
  8. Well I have covered 8900km on the Mobil1 0W-40 and it has not used one drop of oil from the sump (I checked about 10 times!) and color is great... another 1000km till I give it a service, will take some pics when time comes. So far as the Castrol question, that is within the grade recommended so as long as you stick to that you should be fine? I can not comment on the product as I have never used it personally.
  9. I swear I had the first in Bairnsdale and now I see Fuuuuck loads of them around! ..... very popular cars!
  10. I'd say if you own a Kluger you already have a head injury? so no problem there :P
  11. one and bit containers ! (5.7 from memory???) dunno its in my thread need to troll through it and find exact figure for you. I personally hate rolling road dyno's, hence why I use my VBOX set up to tune all cars.
  12. AFR does vary in real world to dyno in my experience (more correct on road v's dyno cell) ;) *equipment accuracy aside - which is never great in a dyno shop IMHO*
  13. Took the front 3 spark plugs out of my Kluger today to have an examination of how healthy the engine is running. First point is how clean the plugs are! very very small amount of carbon build up on outer body with zero build up on the insulator nose or the ground electrode! they use an Iridium spark plug with an Iridium tip welded onto a convention steel ground electrode, my car has 8500km on it and the plug looks like it just cam out of the box, both ground an center tips are very sharp and show virtually nil wear..... they will easily do 100,000km based of this check today. Oil level is almost exactly the same as 7500km ago when I put in new 0w-40 Mobil 1 and oil color is only slightly darker than when I put it in! I did a very brief performance check with full tank of BP98 and equipment left in car from my tuning trip and it registered 0-100kph in 7.57 seconds (25 deg Ambient day). All in all she has a clean bill of health and I am very impressed with the engines retention of performance, economy, and durability with no funny business going on (no oil consumption). In next few weeks I will run a compression check on the engine and keep that on file in this thread as well, I have a professional digital tester that I use in my rotary work with is made for all types of petrol internal combustion engines, I will post up the results.
  14. I logged mine today for AFR curve Did a total full tank run on 98 Ultimate, AFR was from 12.30 to 11.20:1 for majority of the rpm range in 1st and 2nd gear on a 7.57second 0-100kph time and in the last few hundred revs the AFR dropped down to 10.90:1 (on the gear change the AFR goes dead rich for a few 10th's of a second 9.99:1). I will take the data off the lap top and post it up in summary and graph form. AFR at all other times is held rock solid at 14.50:1 during cruising/idle etc.
  15. Will prices go up now that the dollar has fallen over 20% to the yen since I bought mine 6 months ago? or are they just making less profit
  16. Agreed same with mine... one or two seconds maximum then its as described.
  17. I bought a TomTom One for $280 :) to go in my ghetto spex KX-S Save me on my trip to qld and finding my way around Sydney
  18. I have not noticed it on mine, but I changed my oil @ 1000km to Mobil 1 0w-40 ..... she has 8500km on it now and its same as the day I picked it up, no abnormal noises? Mine is more vocal as I have no cover on top of my engine (can see pics in my thread). The only noise I hear is fuel injectors opening and closing at fast idle, which gets less intense only as engine warms up and idle drops down to normal level... you can always hear fuel injectors and valve gear :D which is nice as you can hear its heart working :D It is a sweet engine, I love mine. Oh I used Automotive mechanics steathascope and could never hear anything abnormal from cold on either the factory oil or on the Mobil I use now. Not sure how it will be in 100,000km time :P
  19. Nice, oh I forgot to say ! I saw a crap load of Klugers on the road!!! many more than other similar types in that class of 4WD. All colors and types, most popular was Grande in white and light blue, not many KX-S ones like mine, and only blue one was a KX-R? had smaller rims and no fog lights etc. It was so funny on way back, had some punk in a X5 BMW who thought he was hardcore and I totally smashed him accelerating up a hill to about 150kph! :D lots of people shocked with how fast the Kluger is, non more than me :o it seriously is one of the best rides I have had that combines awesome power to overtake safely but top notch fuel economy for such a big vehicle. The safety was shown best on way back where it was raining so hard around Maitland where I could not see with windshield wipers on full ! she was rock solid. Great vehicle :D
  20. Just came back home from a 3327km round trip to Qld, had stop off in Sydney and Canberra to do tuning work, so combined quite a bit of low speed stuff in city driving... in short averaged 9.3lt for the 3327km Journey...... tried all types of fuels (6 different fills) and the best were from BP service stations, had some figures of 8.6~8.8lt or so on pure highway traveling (over 500km). Will take a photo and post up through week for proof :) Kluger was awesome, I drove back the 1640km with only two fuel stops and a sleep for about 5 hours at a mates place in Canberra, left Qld lunch time and got back home to Bairnsdale just after lunch time today.
  21. I had this come up after I played around with one solenoid under the engine bay lol while engine was idling .. it ****ted me so I drove down to dealer and he did the following procedure to get rid of the error. *trying to remember* You start the car and while stationary (foot on brake) Put it in sport and cycle up and down through the gears from 1 to 5, then put it back in Park and turn the engine off... it goes something like that, and it removes the "***** you off error" if it comes back after that then it needs to be checked out further. I am not sure how many times you have to do it but it goes something like that anyway.
  22. Yeah its a real cool comparison mate, full props for going to the dyno ;) ...... I think it all correlates really well given the straight line performance of my one :) When I come back from my tuning trip I will hook up my AFR probes and do a plot of the mixture on raod V's what you got on the dyno, typically it runs a tad leaner on road as well compared to a rolling road test cell.
