Is this ok for the engine?

Hi.

Today i took off the intake snorkel from the end of the airbox and left the hole open so the air is no sucked straight into the airbox. I thought that the removal of this snorkel would give me more torque as the air doesnt have to travel so far.

What i want to know is will the removl of this snorkel affect my engine in any bad way?

The chances of water getting into the engine are extremely low right?

After taking it off, i notice a nice raspy meanish sound as i get to 3000 revs and when touching the throttle at high speeds i can hear a wooshing sound from the bay. I'm also running a K&N flat panel filter and ive scraped out the mesh grille from the plastic tube inside the airbox...

One lst thing, im looking at the snorkel now and its extremely restrictive in terms of airflow... It looks okay when in the engine bay but at the bottom end where after it opens out to drain water, the tubing gets really skinny. There is also a 15cm section where the plastic has been replaced with metal mesh and wrapped in rope then covered in plastic. Does anybody know what this is for? Sound deadening?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Just for fun, unclip the top of your airbox so the air filter is visible. Then rev your engine, and hear the wonderful sound it makes...

Don't drive with it off though. Just do it while it's stationary :)
