Thanks for the email ^_^ I thought Aus wouldn't have enough free-to-air channels to make it worthwhile.... a DTV box and HDD recorder would do basically the same job....

Pretty sure the value of television commercials would go down the sh!tter if we could fast forward ads... lol... Would free to air TV even exist after a while???

Just like Australian car manufacturers if someone took the tariffs away... OOOHHHH SNAP!

Obviously you could only fast forward advertisements AFTER they've been dumped to your box... ;)

So I don't think they'd care if you don't watch them on subsequent viewings

(Edit: oh, and I thought this was a Corolla associated thread ... TiVo, 'tivo? It's all too confusing. Ed.)

I just read up on Tivo on Wikipedia.... I honestly don't see why you would subscribe to the service apart from having the little bonuses (TV guide, search function, recommendations based on viewing history) or the ability to rewind/fast forward TV (which alarum has already pointed out, you need to be watching the show AFTER it started in real time and your Tivo box needed to be recording it in that time). And the article stated they have models for analogue TV and HDTV..... no standard definition DTV?

Like I said before, HDTV set-top box with twin tuners and a big hard drive, does 95% of the job and no subscription costs.....

Icetv and a mini mac is the way to go :yahoo:

its quick easy and clear. Also see twice as many programs in the time you want with fast forwarding adds.

Tivo probably the same as any good Set top box with hdd.

Also consider tv tuners for computers...i got one and never miss a show.

foxtel iq does the same thing if im not mistaken.

if you have the cable foxtel like we do in my place, you still get access to 2,7,9,10,sbs through the set top box, although 10 and 7 havent reached an agreement with foxtel to display their high def programming so yo cant view their programs in the program guide.

7 probebly wont ever do it coz they got this tivo agreement going on...

all this crap is leading to TOO MANY BOXES SITTING AROUND MY TV!

vhs, dvd, dvd recorder, foxtel, hd set top box, surround sound amp.. not to mention ps2 and xbox360, ps3, wii... now tivo. (no im not literally saying this is all around my own tv. just saying how much crap there is out there and theres not enough AV inputs or space 2 house this stuff).

they dont make tv cabinets to house all this sh!te.

hopefully this will go down the same path as XM radio and the other digital set top boxes that are now become useless technologiez in australia. you couldnt sell set top boxes to cash converters anymore.. they just dont sell!

i'd say either go for a mac tv, mini mac or grunty pc with digital tv tuner and subscribe to icetv.

you wouldn't need a dvd, dvd recorder or tivo, because the above should be more than enough.
