Im looking at some new rims and wondering what tyre size do I need for a 17x7.5. Will my current 215/40/17 fit onto the new rims?

Also are 7.5inch wide legal???

Any help appreciated

Jaze,

a 215/40/17 may look a little narrow on a 7.5inch rim. Maybe go for a 225 if you can find any in the correct profile.

The best way to find a correct tyre size is to use a tyre/wheel index (that any reputable tyre place will refer to).

Or use this handy tyre calculator that i've been using for a couple years now.

Online Tyre Calculator

Enter your original tyre dimensions into the first field, then enter your new estimated dimensions to find the closest match for overall rolling diameter (circumference).

hey guys i was a tyre fitter 4 10 years on cars bikes and trucks 225 is the min on a 7.5 inch rim 215 will nit handle right as the bead will be wider than than the rim edge therefor deforming the tyre and possibly wearing out the edges b4 the centre

You can pull off 215s on a 7.5'' width, but as homer501 says, they will wear out the outers before they do the mids,

Just come to my place and check out mine
