hey guys, just recently i had my car rear-ended by lolz another toyota, corolla to be exact, the damge wasn't that much considering te only problem i think as far as i know is just the bumper damage, the other driver wanted to pay for the repairs cause the car isn't under his name. Anyhow last week i took it to a smash repair place in Sunshine (Vic) and got quoted $990 to fix, is that a fair price or is it over the top? my mate also recently got his complete rear end resprayed for $1K. So i'm not sure if that's a fair price, what does anyone else think?

what kind of car?

what needs replacing?

how bad is the damage?

any pics?

no way we can help without seeing the problem... and dont compare to the price for any other car, cos they are all different and have different parts and different costs from the manufacturer.

oh yep i forgot to mention, its a

95 Celica ZR, with rear bumper damage, the damage is minor - paint has cracked, bumper may be cracked but i'm not sure, on the quote the guy wrote that he's replacing the bumper, i had pics but my old man took the camera, will post once i find it, i was stationary when the guy hit me from the rear so it wasn't a high speed collision, but i have noticed that when i apply the brake on the car, some loud metal noises are appearing now so something may have popped loose

Panel shop would've quoted rear bumper, rear bumper brackets and supports, paint and labour...

$990 sounds like an average price...

Why do you care anyway??? It wasn't your fault and you don't have to pay for it... Who cares how much it costs to get fixed??? You want a good repair rather than a cheap one cause the guy it paying cash...

shouldn't cost more then $500-$600

mine is costing $400 at bargain basement prices because I pleaded with the guy because I'm selling the car.

yeh true, i kinda feel sorry for the guy otherwise i would have gone through the insurance company (depending on how it goes, i'm still waiting for repairs) the thing is the car isn't under his name but rather his dad's, but come to think of it, yeah that price is pretty fair considering of a new bumper and labour. I'm not sure how the guy is gowing to pay for it, he said that he's going to ask his mechanic, i'll see how it goes and if i don't like the outcome, i'll just contact my insurance company.

but i guess that depends on the parts and the labour and the type of car

shop around... my friend got into a small accident where his bumper was scuffed n his guard was dented a little, he got quotes from $200 to $900... we ended up getting a new guard from the wreckers (same color) for $50 and we got a friend to respray the bumper... so just shop around when ur dealin with panel beaters

if its got metalic flakes then around 900

thanks for the input guys, i decided to let my insurance take care of this problem, less headaches, also that way my repairs have warranty as well but yeah he cost is considerably higher than when my mate had his rear end resprayed
