I am currently looking at the purchase of a new Aurion Touring and have some general questions.

I tow a caravan which tares at 1245 Kg. - Has anyone any experience towing a van with the Aurion and could compare it to say a Commodore/Falcon?

Are there any great dramas being experienced with the Aurion?

At present I tow using Hayman Rees stabilisers etc - any experiences?

What are spares and accessories priced like compared to Holden etc?

Hey,

Whilst the aurion is a great car, for towing I doubt it's good at all.

There not really built for towing, although they can take upto 1600kg legally, it would be very straining.

Being FWD and all, I think you'd be better off with a commodore (obivously RWD) (The new falcons are out next year, and look like garbage VE rip off,personal preference though)

But then agian,I have had no expeirence towing.

Someone else may be more of a help around here!

Yeah I can just picture a FWD car towing something like 1.5tonnes with balding tyres up a steep hill.... :(

Its just the wrong car to tow a van that size. I would have said a falcon wagon and an egas LPG one if you do the miles.

hm i say it wouldnt be that good, since max torque comes in around 4700rpm so it will be puttin alot of strain on the engine?

something with early torque would be good

As a former motor mechanic I whole hartedly agree with all the posts above. FWD is not for towing, especially long distances. It's especially dangerous in poor weather conditions with a load on the back!!!

I'm affraid Aurion (or anything FWD for that matter) is not for you.

Hi, I would like to say yes go for the AURION .

It's Nice car to drive I just bought one 2 days ago, nice to drive but if you thing to tougw a van I don't recomanded.

Hi,

I have towed a fully loaded camper trailer many times, while it is probably only half of a caravan, it tows that load great. Maybe a turbo diesel may be better for towing a big load due to a higher torque ?

Thanks for your informed reply Adrian.

Something I did not add to my original post is that I currently tow with a 3.8 V6 Vy Berlina (2004), and find that it handles the job quite adequately.

I,m not really excited about moving into a 4WD etc. (Re. your good advice on turbo diesel).

I am interested in your comment that you have towed a fully 'loaded camper trailer' as the weight in those circumstances can obviously approach that of my 1245Kg pop top van, and very often the handling of that type of load can compromise the tow vehicle. Mainly because the vans load is predetermined (almost).

Do you have the genuine towbar fitted and do you use any type of stabiliser bars etc?

Frankly I have no doubt the Aurion will handle it well, power wise.

I do appreciate other feedback regarding torque/RPM and handling in poor weather - thanks.

Hi,

Yes I have a genuine towbar but no stabiliser bars and it goes fine. Up Bulladela (cant spell), changes back a gear and keeps to it's 110km/hr no probs. Obviously uses more fuel, around the 10/11 ltr/100km on the highway.

I take it that your poptop has brakes ?

Toyota recommended that I get it factory/dealer installed something about the LED tail lights (& I did), that could have been to get more money as well....

Any comments on reliability of the car and cost of spares and accessories?

Aurion is a Toyota, so you will find it to be more reliable than most Australian cars makes. I got a 6 yr warranty with fixed service costs, $120 frist 3 & $170 next 3yrs, providing I take it back to my local Toyota place.

Cost, it costed less than $500 (new & factory, with brakes option), a little more expensive than going to JoeBlow but convenient.

I,m not really excited about moving into a 4WD etc. (Re. your good advice on turbo diesel).

Yes it does have electric brakes (its 16foot) that can be operated from the dashboard which are excellent if you need to slow down in a hurry.

Could you hazard a guess on the weight you tow (fully loaded)?

The 4WD idea is great if you are towing large dual axle or off road etc. but my limit at this stage has been on the black stuff to Tassie, Victoria, S.A., N.S.W., and mid Queensland on 3 weeks at a time each year holidays.

If I'm going outback I'll fly their and pay someone to bus/coach me around in comfort - definately the cheapest and quickest way to see it all.
