Buying early model RAV4, diffs between models

Hi guys, new to the forum and about to become a Toyoto-ite.

I'm looking to enter the RAV world with a early model and am tossing up a few ideas. I'm pretty much set on the 5 door, despite the cuteness and nimbleness of the 3 door, since there simply doesn't appear to be any room in the 3 door and the 5 door still looks small enough.

What I am confused about however, is the various options and changes over the models.

To start with, if both cars are priced similarly, is a 98 model with 200 000 k's any better than a 95 model with 170 000 k's? I'm interested in the advertised 95 model because it is close, is "cruiser" trim with elec windows and sunroof, and the seller claims it has a diff lock button missing from the later models.

Has much changed in the few years between the models?

Generally you're better off with the car with less kms travelled as it should have less wear on the car and parts in general... This is presuming both cars have been driven and cared for in the same manner as one another...

I'm guessing with the Diff Lock button the 95 Model can be selected manually whereas the later models are ECU controlled when the front wheels are detected to be slipping too much...
