Gears crunching when cold

Recommended Posts

I totally forgot about this, a few weekends ago when I drove my car some where to be stored away I noticed that when the car was still warming up it would crunch going into second, this also happened the day before I put it away.

Any ideas?!

I thought that letting it warm up was bad, and that the best way was easy driving???

Start saving $1000-1500 for a rebuild?

Otherwise try Redine MT90 to see if that solves the problem.

Cheers bloke, will give that a lash when I get the car back :)

didnt know it was sportivo, my mate rolla (auto) does the whole crunch thing.

should check the clutch cable, sometimes when they lose they can make the gear changing bit diffrent. can be the clutch too

clutch system is hydrualic, no clutch cable, maybe should try changing the oil, they use a 70/90w or a 75/90w grade gear oil if i remember correctly, they two numbers dictate the oils thickness when hot and cold, if not you've worn your 1st to 2nd syncronising gears/rings in the box, oh and if your clutch is worn it won't fully disengage and will crunch, but with all gears.

mistreated can cause damage, lol, i mean really mistreat it like not fully putting it into gear, not fully stepping on the clutch and trying to change gears mistreat, no box can handle that. syncro gears are made by a softer metal than the rest of the box, so in any case they wear out first to prevent wear n tear on your gears. reason? gears more expensive than syncros.
