PRADO grande 2003 - slight crunch when taking off uphill

Dear people, I am sure there are heaps of prado drivers who have garage with slopy drive in.

I have one -- about 15-20degrees.

When I stop before the garage door I place the truck on P and pull the handbreak.

Then I go up to the garage open the door, return back to the car.

Then I release the handbreak with foot-break fully on. And then place the stick on D3

Then I release the break and start accelerating.

The truck pulls back a bit, coz its steep and then start moving forward (up).. Everythings logical, as per the drivers book.

BUT. Here I hear a strange crunch just under the feet, which sounds like something is trying to hook on something else (bearings, or whatever).

ANd then it quickly goes away (that somehting eventually hooked onto the other something)

Sometimes I dont get the CRUNCH when I accelerate veeeery slowly, but this will roll my car back to the road which I don't want.

ANd I also do not want to un-hand-break the car while moving uphill (old-school manual driving technique)

Anyuone knows what it might be?

THankx

Hi

have you checked to make sure its not the up hill assist is engaging. if the car is rolling back slightly it will kick in and drive the car forward for a few seconds. I have a prado grande 03 as well and when it rolls back it clunks and tries to engage the uphill assist. not sure if this is it but if you look in your book it tells you about this.
