i have only heard of these as i am into the drifting and they are a major sponsor of the drift nsw series.

i have never put them on my car or ever heard any opinions of them.

basically my car has no traction in the wet and i need pink slip in feb, the current tires have lasted 4 years and are getting pretty bad.

i currently have Nexen 205/50R16's and tommrow i will be getting Federal 205/55R16's on the sportivo.

standard rims lowered with whiteline springs.

main reasons for getting more profile is

1) i want to fill out the guards a little more

2) on a tight budget and i want the best value tire for $150

3) traction will be a little better as they are softer aparently

4) the only other tire i could get in 50 was sumitomo and i have never heard of these.

a couple of questions

1) will i have any problems with rubbing ect

2) are these better than sumitomo or the nexens

3) is 150 to much for these (trade price direct from federal btw)

4) any experiances??????

No idea for most of those as I've never raced.

But 150 sounds OK... I pay 160 each for mine in 205/45/17

Micky_Tee should be able to help you out... he used to race on them.

The Federals are a great tyre - much better than their asian equivilants.

It depends what model tyre you are getting from Federal. I would assume at that price you are getting either the 595 SS or the 595 Evo. If you are getting the 535 you are getting ripped off.

I have 595SS on the car now and they are awesome, and I have heard the same about the Evo. When I was doing the hillclimbs, I used both the 595SS first and then moved onto the 595RS. The RS is an awesome tyre, but not really useful for the road.

They're actually manufactured in Taiwan, Micky :whistling:

I went for a drive in a car with aset of Federal tyres, 595 RS. Damn, theyre good! But like Mickey-Tee said, theyre not suitable for daily driving!

Great tyres from all reports!

the SS595

Drift Competition

Federal's extremely successful UHP, the former ss595, has been repositioned and renamed simply as the 595. Slight technical changes have been made by FTC to the tire to suit the purposes and take the abuse of drifting competition.

Combat-bred. Performance-driven. For those requiring flat-out performance, no other tire grips like the 595, yet still provides for the basic comforts of everyday driving. Aggressive V-shaped tread and innovative silica compound maximizes level of adhesion, resistance to aquaplaning, and gives

595EVO

Street Competition

State-of-the-art tire formulated for the ultimate driving experience. Rule the streets. Conquer the asphalt. Technologically advanced 3-D tread design. "Groove within Groove" technology for exceptional water dispersion capabilities and the latest compound formulated for competition. Precise cornering, exceptional grip. Responsive performance and control at high speeds.

SS535

Winning combination of performance and comfort. Federal's SS535 brings new meaning to high performance. Superior performance, uncommon handling, combined with exceptional acceleration and stopping capabilities in wet/dry weather and surfaces.

going by all of them and the fact that i did not specify exactly what tyre i was after just a cheap one. i will more than likely be getting the 535's.

at the end of the day they should be better than worn out nexens

So why asian equivalent??

Lol - no matter. Thought you meant something else.

Madrox, for that money I'm pretty sure you're getting the 595.

As I said, I pay $160 per tyre for the 595 in the next size up... why would you be paying the same for the 535 in 16" (unless they're ripping you off)?

205/55R16 might be an unusual size, could explain the extra cost

Posted

aparently they are more common that the 205/50

they were out of stock of the 205/50 but had plenty of the 205/55

Posted

got the 205/50r16's in federal.

165 per tire for 535's.

they are very unusual sizes.

thats why i had to wait for 2 days for them to come in.

i was sitting there when my trusted mechanic was on the phone to federal tires and they quoted 165 to him.

he didn't charge me for fitting and balancing ect.

all i have to say is that they are awsome compared to the nexens that were on it.

very low road noise, good traction and better handling.

plus they have some strange lip that is meant to protect the rim or something.

i have federals on my car cant tell u how much i can get them for but man there pretty good remembering i have 250fwhp n it strugles to light them up (215/40r17) n they r the 595's

Posted

yeah the 595's are really good.

but even i noticed the 535's on my car are really good aswell.

its alot more comfortable than other tires like proxy.

road noise is minimal.

and suprisingly they grip fairly well.

and they aparently last years.
