hi all,just got a 99 model hilux 4 runner with 2.5T Diesel,and i dont know much about them,What does the ECT-Power Button do for the car and also on the auto gear selector case there is a little red button and a chinese sticker next to it,unfortunately i dont speak chinese so dont quite know what it means either.

The red button might be the shift lock override?

If you can get a picture of the Chinese, we could get a translation on it for ya! :D

I did a bit of reading for you...

ECT = Electronically Controlled Transmission. It pretty much prolongs the gear shift, allowing the car to rev a bit higher and get a bit more push.

You probably don't want to freeway cruise with it turned on...

As for the little red button, it could be the shift lock override - but is it closer to the handbrake?

If so, its the "emergency release" button... which releases you from the locked seatbelts in the event of malfunction or an accident. Should permanently be in the 'up' position.
