Factory Car Warranty...

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question. Will using TRD parts void the factory car warranty which is the 3year/100 000km?

Using non-toyota parts such as king springs, blitz cai or whatever deffinately voids it doesn't it? silly question i know, but just to make sure.

thanks in advance...

Will depend on your dealer. If they are picky, they can void your warranty even with no mods (eg. bad driving..) But some will say TRD is ok. Best bet is keep i stock, if you are planning to mod make sure you have a bit of extra cash just to play safe..

Ditto Zee

If the dealers play the game correctly, they should only be voiding a warranty if the fault on the vehicle is caused as a direct result of the modification of alteration made to the vehicle.

An examply of this would be if you installed a CAI (TRD, Blitz or other) and the engine got crap in it and f'ed up, then Toyota could argue that this wouldn't have happened if you hadn't have had this part installed, therfore voiding warranty.

As Zee also said, "will depend on your dealer" - by this too, should you have lowered suspension, and you take your car in claiming warranty on bad welds on the bottom of the exhaust, then they could also argue that if the car wasn't lowered, then ride height wouldn't have been altered, and you wouldn't have scraped the exhaust on the speedbumps to mess with the welds.

Some Dealers get real picky at little stuff, and some realise that it isn't worth their while to get worried about it, and just fix it.

I had extensive experience dealing with warranties and service repairs in the PC industry, and they are the same. If someoone bought a PC into us with a fried motherboard and had overclocked the processor, then we'd void the warranty.

If all they had done was added RAM, the unless they spiked some static into the motherboard when istalling, then this wouldn't have been a void.

My only advice would be to keep your mods sensible if you are concerned about the warranty. Don't go too nuts just yet.....

Hope this helps

Cheers

It depends on the dealer and on the toyota techy assessing the claim for the fault.

e.g. they cant just see a CAI on your car and say that voids your warrenty even though you havent even submit a fault for them to look at.

Also that being said Toyota has to prove that the mod you put on your car was the cause of the fault which you identify to them. e.g. if u have a CAI and all else is stock and your shocks go on you the two are not even related and id like to see toyota claim ur CAI was the cause of your shocks going.

The other part is also to what extreme they want to help you. i mean if they dont want to help you at all and say your engine kicks it and at a glance it might have leaned out they could say well because ur CAI was there it was getting to much air and bye bye engine. But if they investigated they could probably find it might be something else. This is the problem u will face if u have a fault which might be related to an area you have modded.

Also just to note when they say void your warrenty it is only on the part u have modded. i.e. if u fit a unichip this will only void the warrenty on ur ecu and nothing else. And if u have a failure they would not replace ur ecu for free and if other stuff failed they would need to prove that the unichip caused the other stuff to become faulty.

This is why u put all your stock stuff back on when u go in for a warranty claim ;) ;) ;) ;)

hope that helps

cheers

Bill
