I'm perplexed, - why does the RAV4 come with an immobilizer but not an alarm, and there's no genuine alarm by toyota for it! - Somebody breaks into the car to open up the glove compartments etc, trying his luck, - why can't there be an alarm!!!

Do you think the immobilizer suffices for the safety of the car?

i think its only a law that the car has to have an immobiliser, not an alarm itself

this does mean its your chance to get a hugely juiced up one with shock/window breakage/tilt detection.

True-true. Gets me thinking, do you have an alarm installed? - do you guys think it's worth spending the extra 500 to get an alarm installed... if so what do you recommend

i got a 3 point autowatch alarm (pretty basic... window detection, bonnet and boot opening detection thingo) for 350 installed.. so its not that expensive for a peace of mind..
