Hi all, I'd like get an idea of how much the value of a car is affected if it a repairable write-off.

Here's my example –

Toyota Corolla '98 1.6L Hatchback, Auto, Steer, Central locking, CD player, 11 mths rego, 140,000kms, Tyres 60%, New timing belt.

Overall car is in very good condition, mechanically A1. Few minor scratches here and there. Car had been hit in the rear, but car has been well repaired.

My guess is the average price for this car would be $7,000 (no prior accidents).

Can you guys please let me know what you think

a) What you'd pay (if it wasn't a repairable write-off)

b) What you'd pay – using the above description.

Thanks in advance for your responses. Cheers.

using 1998 Toyota Corolla CSi Seca AE101R as an example

* Private Price Guide $4,900 - $6,600

* Trade In Price Guide $3,000 - $4,700

* Average Km 165,000 - 275,000

is what the car is worth (check out redbook.com.au for the exact model prices)

i had a car which was a repairable write off. hit on the front though, they are not quite the same anymore... really depends on the type of damage and the quality of repair.

im going to have a stab and say, take of at least 25% of the market value for a repairable write-off - if you want to go down that path

That's what I was after. Great reply!

I'd appreciate anyone else who has any examples or opinions on the drop in value. Thanks!

as a recent vehicle purchaser i refused to buy a repairable write off (only way id buy it is if i owned the car before it was crashed and i knew how bad the damage was)

Why bother buying one when you can buy a car that hasnt been crashed almost as easily!
