it will cost you a lot less to replace your current engine with the same type of engine, or get your current engine repaired. Conversions aren't cheap.

thanks for the reply.

not to concerned about the cost. dont want to spend millions but the extra power would be nice

sydneyrollaclub.com is prolly ur best bet.

i learnt everything i needed to know about 2 of my ae92's of that site.

people have done alot of 4age to 20v, 4agze and 4agte on that site.

i reccomend throwing the extra money out there and buying a 4age and chuck it in the rolla.

i went from 4afe to a blacktop 20v and wow what a difference. bearings went on the 4afe so i needed a rebuild.

well in your SR5 you'll want something that has forced induction. No point spending $5K on a 20V swap and still be left with a torqueless engine.

To do the swap properly you will need:

-Frontcut $2500 >to get the correct loom/ac/ps/ecu etc. Starting with a 4agze cut would be a good idea as then you will also get the correct clutch and flywheel to mate up to the AWD SR5 box. Try and get an AE101 GZE cut as then you can sell the FWD E series LSD box and shafts to recover some costs.

-Uprated clutch $300-500 > to hold the extra torque, your wheels wont spin with the AWD so you need a clutch that wont slip instead.

-Complete set of service parts >crank and cam seals, cam cover seals, waterpump, filters (fuel, oil, air), spark plugs, geniune coolant, timing belt and tensioner, charger oil, accessory belts, radiator and heater hoses

-Radiator Service > get the frontcut radiator serviced, it will be at least 40% blocked, should only cost $80 to remove a tank and clear the core

-Grinder > to clearance the block and transfer case so the AWD box fits the GE/GZE block

-Wiring Specialist > get someone who has done the same wiring job previously and will leave you will a factory-looking loom. The wiring is the most important part of any conversion, this is the area that will cause you the most problems if it's not done right, can cost anywhere up to $700.

-Exhaust > can range anywhere from $80 to join up your old exhaust to the GZE headers, or up to $800 for a nice new complete mandrel bent system with two mufflers and a cat etc

-Engineering > either the 20V or 4agze conversion will require engineering in Australia. Basically if the engine wasn't released in the same chassis in Aus it requires engineering, this is mainly due to the engine requiring emissions testing. Price varies from state to state and can cost anywhere from $180 through to $1000.

Also dont forget any extra costs like Labour if you can't do everything yourself, purchasing extra tools if you are DIY'ing it, crane hire if you dont own one, tow fees, etc etc.

Give yourself a $7K budget and you might have some change left over, or just buy a better car.
