Hummer flipped in collision with Corolla

-----------------------------------

A HUMMER came off second best when it smashed into a small Corolla sedan in Darwin yesterday.

The Northern Territory News reports the massive, prestige model car - similar to those used by the military in battle zones - flipped on to its side when it allegedly failed to give way and crashed into another car at the notorious Stuart Highway and Goyder Rd junction in Stuart Park about 10.30am.

The driver was not injured, but his female passenger and a woman driving the other car - a silver Toyota Corolla - were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries and discharged soon after.

Darwin watch commander acting Superintendent Bob Harrison said it appears the Hummer, which has Queensland number plates, was travelling inbound on the Stuart Hwy and tried to turn right on to Goyder Rd, but failed to give way to the woman travelling outbound in her Corolla.

Supt Harrison said the intersection was a notorious spot.

Accidents are never good, and I am saddened to hear of any, but who would have thought that being hit by a Hummer would result in minor injuries?!

no wonder it flipped. high speed combined with high centre of gravity, combined with shifting weight whilst turning, with the fact the corolla's nose probably slipped under the hummer and flicked it up.

maybe armies fighting the yanks should invest in getting some corollas?

If the US were using H3s I'd be seriously worried :P

The H2 and H3 have about as much in common with the HMMWV as a water blaster does with a combat shotgun.
