Hello to all TOC forummers

I just bought a used Camry Altise 2003 and I thought I should participate in this forum to learn new things about my Toyota. This is my first and only Toyota although I had driven quite a few in the past. I've owned several Volvos, Nissan, Mitsubishi, a Suzuki, Peugeot and a Renault.

So why did I buy a Toyota? Having recently moved to Australia, I bought a Suzuki Grand Vitara (which used by my wife) and later found out we needed a 2nd car. I choose Toyota because of the good experience I had whenever I get to drive one. I like Toyota's philosophy of building cars that are reliable and durable. It may not be exciting but it serves the main purpose of owning a car i.e. to get you safely from point A to B at a reasonable cost of ownership.

Anyway, I hope I'll be able to participate actively in this forum.

what renault car do you used to drive? i have had 2 renault sport clio. one 172 and one 182 F1.

Compare toyota with the Renault cars, the cost to maintain a toyota car is more friendly than a renault (around $400 for a MINOR service).

Also the parts avaliability of toyota is much better than renault (no spares in oz, need to order from France)

anyway. nice choice.

Hi Terry,

I used to own a Renault R19 back in the 1990s. Good but not a great car. Whilst I enjoyed driving it, the breakdowns were regular. Quite problematic if you'd ask me. Anyway, it was sold after 10 years of usage.

hey welcome!.... i once thought about buying a camry, but at the time it was over my budget, so i got a corolla, had it for over 3 years now. and still running smooth, yes toyota's are indded durable cars :D

Like you, I thought about a Corolla and began to research used Corolla. It turned out that a used Camry with the same mileage and MY as a Corolla costs almost the same. I wonder why. Maybe it's because of the supply situation as Toyota must have sold a lot more Camry than Corolla. Hence with plenty to choose from, prices of Camry must have fallen to Corolla's level. Plus, the current trend is -people are buying smaller cars.

Yes, call it white goods on wheels but my Toyota is reliable even though it is 6 yrs old. Can't say the same for my previous Renault and Volvos.

Welcome to the forum.

I would agree with the comment of most people on this thread, that Toyota is probably not the most flashy and exciting car you can buy. But, if you choose to be positive rather than pesimistic you can say that you've got a great start. Not very flashy means there is a lot you can do to it to make it look just the way you like.

Performance? Toyota is good enough out of the factory. But, spend a little bit of money on the things and they become absolute rockets. I have seen Nissan Skylines, even R35 GT's, Mazda RX8's, Mitsubishi GTO's, Mitsubishi Evolution X's, Subaru WRX STi's....whatever.... they do not compare to the style and the beast-like performance of a good Supra with a heart made of a 2JZ-GTE, or the new Toyota HS (you will find it in Google under "new Supra") which is a 300 Kw hybrid. I witnessed (at Oran Park Raceway, NSW) a Supra kick the crap out of the most expensive and vastly modified Skyline in Australia. It was great to see, believe me.

For something more family orientated but with a sporty look you can't go past the new Camry and the Aurion, and I have seen some great looking ones from the US.

Anyway, welcome again. I hope that very soon you are not just a Toyota owner but a Toyota fan through and through.

      What can cause 2x bolts Missing on break calipers?

      In my humble experience with our car and Toyota - the majority we came across travelling around Australia towing a van is they are uncaring, irresponsible and possibly dangerous. One of them forgot to tighten the front wheel. Imagine the disaster if the wheel had decided to part company at 90kph towing a 3t caravan.

      02 mcv20r no go

      have a 02 camry with 1mzfe engine...runs lpg as well as petrol. lpg mixer suffered a intake preiigition and had to be rebuilt. however will now willnot run on petrol. fiers but immediately stops. have replaced eveyrthing from fuel pump forwards, mas,ignition module, ecu, etc. no fault codes on obd2. had a local mobile mechanic have a look with no joy....any thoughts out there?

      Towing with landcruiser 300 series

      Good practice to tow in 4th. Lots of information on the now defunct LCCOL forum but everyone was in agreement about towing in 4th. I have done this towing a 3.5t rated van. Fuel consumption is so similar it is not an issue. It is more about getting the engine spinning. New diesel like to spin as opposed to chug along like the old style ones. Proof for me was when I had the ECU remapped and installed a lockup kit. Whilst the car was happy to hold 5th and 6th - extra power and locked - the EGTs were telling a different story. Towing in 4ht at a GPS 90 - 95 kph turned out to be the best combination for forward progress and fuel consumption.

      Remote batteries going flat very quickly

      There was a post on the now defunct LCOOL forum whereby you could put your remote in a 'sleep' state and save the battery. It seems the remote is constantly looking for a signal which in turn drains the battery.

      Major Oil Leak

      tragedy has struck 😔... my 07 SX6 suffered a major oil leak this morning. Got a low oil pressure alert, pulled over. dip stick was bone dry with small amounts of metal flakes on the end. i'm assuming the leak is caused by either the oil cooler lines or the vvti rubber line deterioration. Car has been towed to my house. Whats the best course of action now? fix the leak and do a few oil flushes? or do i need a whole new motor?

      ST-162 front door-glass seal availability

      Hi all, my wife has a 1988 ST-162 Celica which I have been lovingly caring for since we met 25 years ago. It is in VGC, but of late the wind noise at freeway speeds has become much louder, and with the current wet weather the front doors are leaking rain through the 'seal' point between the window glass and the door seals. The doors are hanging in the proper position and the windows do not seem to be unduly loose in their carriers. I am trying to find a new set of door seals to try to fix the problem, but have had no success anywhere. Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated! My mobile is 0427 478874, or reply here!

      It was done right 5 months ago.. ok… Now I am even more scared.. cuz it was done by Toyota Service Centre.. they replaced both brake pads.. 😖😖

      Took the dust cover off, heart skipped a beat

      Not sure how many of the old guard are still around… fluids drained, fuel tank cleaned and lines purged, might be time to throw it into gear again.
