hi all! my first post in this forum... im looking at buying a hilux dualcab trayback diesel, something along the lines of 94-98 model. what sort of things tend to go wrong with these that i should be wary of while buying? which areas should i pay extra attention to do?...

i currently drive a suzuki sierra. i love the little thing, ive outdone patrols on extremely soft sand tracks and matched hiluxes in mud... but unfortunately its dying, and im sick of the lack of space and power, so its time to move on :P

thanks for any advice!

Hi

Cannon stress service history enough especially with the 2.8 litre n/a diesel "3L" engine.... they sludge up something chronic, I think they were on 2500k service intervals when brand new.... scary stuff....

basically, you want something that is as original as possible and hasn't been flogged to death... and when you get it, change the fuel filter, air filter, and adjust the valve clearances. check and change other oils and fluids as required.

Sorry can't really help much other than to say if you get HDL tray then watch rear end in the wet or non firm surfaces...might overtake the cab - with the greatest of ease. Also - the newer common rail diesel has plenty of poke & gutsy down low..... will put a hole in yr pocket too.

Best of luck.

Cheers - Nick.
