someone have a mate from toyota who can retrieve a security code for a head deck from the serial number? or does it have to be reset?

dont want to pay for a code

reason is got a free 05 headdeck from a mate, and wanna replace my 04 non mp3 one

I'm unaware they need a code; I've never needed one.

Plug it in and see what happens, if you need a code its not that big a drama as it was free anyway.

yeah i might give it a go see what happens. because they have that little security symbol on top of the headunits. plus my 04 one needs a code as i have it in my manual.

Strange, I have never needed to put a code in my 04 headunit with all my battery resetting.

Also have a non mp3 headunit from a Corolla in a Celica that never required a code. Both headunits have the security symbol too.

if it does need a code it will be a code that whoever oeiginally owned the car/unit programmed into it. they dont come with a code however if u read the manuel u will find that u can programme ur own code. i hav come across this a few times at work.

oh, so it 'can' have a code, but from factory it doesnt have one? if this is the case, think i may give it a go then since he doesnt remember anything about a code. thanks

all u can do is giv it a go aye. i would say that you'd be right if he knows nothing about it.

the most common code used by dealers, is the last 4 or 5 digits of the car VIN that it originally was fitted to.

well you can only put 3 digits in the sportivo head deck. so i'll give it a go

Toyota employee right here! Generally it is the last 3 of the VIN but each dealer also has their own specific code. I have a list of them at work if you know which dealer the car originally came from. Otherwise you can guess 10 times then it will be locked out. But thats not the end of it. You can bring it to a dealership and we can unlock it for you using our decoder box. We'll need to pull the headunit out to do it so there is a small fee. Only a small price to pay for a free headunit

hi josh thanks for the info.

the unit is already out, so ill put it back in and give it another go. and i think it was orginally from motorama moorooka i believe, have to confirm with my mate.

so firstly ill give the code a go, then ill tell ya which dealer it was from and lastly might hit you up to unlock it for me :) (if you're from brisbane)

edit. was from motorama moorooka, on beaudesert road. so kinda salisbury.
