Hi all, I am currently in the process of moving from Perth to Darwin and on my way into broome my car through a check engine light, the anti skid caution, red ! Light and a VSC system check light on the display. I'm staying the night in broome but need to leave asap. Does anyone have any suggestions to the cause of the problem. I drove the car for a couple hundred ks after the issue to get to broome with no noticable effect. Do you think it would be fine to continue driving up to Darwin. Thanks for any help provided.

Some information on such an occurrence can be read here in another thread:

Check VSC Error

Basically the list of possibilities are endless. Getting it read by Toyota or another scan tool can narrow it down, but even still, there can be many possible causes.

You should get it read by Toyota and let us know if it is exhaust related :P

Otherwise you can reset you ECU by pulling the ECU fuses for a minute then forever wonder what the error was about (providing that it doesn't come back).

About 5kms before the problem I stopped at a dodgy servo, put 20litres of 98 oct fuel in from my Jerry can plus 20litres of 91 from the pump. Think I might drain the tank. Will disconecting the battery clear the codes.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of it being the fuel just yet. Personally I would recommend you get it read because it could seriously be anything and it would be helpful to know. When I had my light come on, I had filled up my fuel not too long before it and thought that could have been the cause. Turned out mine was a true ABS/VSC error.

Toyota (or an OBDII scan gauge) can tell you the error code that can let you know where the problem could have come from.

Otherwise, yep, just pull your negative terminal off, leave it for a few minutes (even 10 to be sure) then connect it back up. If you start the engine and the error does not come up immediately, then it's nothing major. If your drive and reach about 60km/h and it comes back, I'd really suggest to get the code read.

Ended up being the fuel. Drained the left over fuel, refuelled it, reset ecu. Done around 100 km around town and all good. Thanks to those who replied. Don't buy fuel in Pardu WA.

As I said, you can't guarantee that it was the fuel.

Okay, let's put it this way. If you read my post here, you will see that I had accumulated ABS/VSC errors. If I simply emptied my fuel and refilled it then proceeded to reset my ECU, you would jump to the same conclusion that it was the fuel wouldn't you? But as I said in my post, it was random ABS/VSC errors that after resetting them, did not return.

I had exactly the same thing and 8 days later my battery totally died.

I didn't realise how weak the starter was until after the battery was changed... These things crank pretty quick!

rang a dealer and they said it is likely to have been a low voltage issue. So, maybe your battery/alternator/regulator?

Anyway - as DJKOR suggests, I wouldn't jump to the fuel conclusion either... the actual cause of mine (nearly 18 months ago and no fault since) only showed up 8 days later!

Had mine come on again this morning just crossing over the bridge, later on I refuelled the car and after a couple of starts it disapeared, it has done this a few times recently, doesen't worry me because whatever upsets it comes good after a while. seems to do it once tank gets below halfway, may be a fault with tank pressure sensors. just another theory.

After resetting the ECU and refuelling I have done another 2500kms with no more problems. I still put it down to either the fuel at the dodgy servo in the middle of no where, or the fact that I mixed 98 octane with their 91 octane and the O2 sensor didn't like it.

Thanks again to those who replied.

Are any of u guys still getting this problem? My vsc and check engine light came on the other day, took it to my

Mechanic to get the codes read by the scanner, and said the battery was loose and was spiking the computer causing the lights to come on. It's been 2 days no errors yet... Fingers crossed!!!
