Hey guys,

Over the last two days the engine light has come on twice in my corolla. It happened at the same time on the same route (driving gf to work). Each time I was on the ICB in bris and not able to stop easily so the first time it happened I pulled up when safe and checked out the car. There was no loss of power/trouble shifting/smoke etc. WHen I pulled over there was no smells/smoke/steam, excess heat or anything out of the ordinary. All the fluids were perfect and the engine oil was spot on (changed 6000kms ago and still looks like it just came out of the bottle).

When I started the car again the light was not there.

Any ideas?

Sam

its happening in the same spot on you're route? maybe you're driving through a ghosts territory and he/she is doesnt like you? try taking an alternate route and see if the problem goes away.

Seriously though maybe reste your ecu and see if that helps

If you really want to see if you can find where the issue may be coming from, I would advise not to reset your ECU. Instead, firstly try talking to your Toyota service department and see if they would be kind enough to scan your OBDII free of charge to see if anything useful as been logged by the ECU. If you talk to the right people, they should have no issue with doing this for you.

Have a look at what the OBD2 diagnostic port tells you. You might know someone with a reader or just go to your dealer and they'll check the codes.

I have a problem where my engine management light has been on for 4 years. It used to be intermittent but now stays on all the time. Toyota has replaced rather expensive sensors $500 plus.. but still can't figure it out. The car's been running fine. Adelaide to Melbourne less than one tank of fuel. (Camry 98 V6).

I guess when the light goes out I'll have to pay for a new globe!! :D

I experienced a problem on my fathers Mercedes where the coolant filler light was displaying. Firstly we checked that everything was fine and it was , i then found the sensor to be the part at fault and replaced it. Turns out the previous owner got slugged a bucket load of cash to do the whole cooling system on the car. Definatly have your ECU plugged in and see what you get!
