Hi, I have a 02 Altise 4-cyl with just over 110,000kms, trying to find out how much changing the timing belt might cost, does this model have a timing belt or chain? If its a chain, do I need to change it, whats the rec km's?

The 2AZ-FE doesn’t have a timing belt, it has a chain, I don’t believe that would need replacing for a long time yet, if ever.

from memory, it is recommended to be 'inspected' around the 150,000km mark. however, as mbruce said, it is a timing chain in the 2az, with the whole idea being minimal servicing costs and longevity so you shouldn't be having any issues with it at this odometer reading.

Thank so much for your replies, much appreciated. My old Camry had a belt so I was thinking along the same lines but I saw something about a chain on the newer models on the net when I was trying to find out how much it would cost to replace. I was preparing for the worst as its a good few years since I replaced the t/belt on my old car.
